Post Problem with Rapid Demist

My rapid demist seems to have thrown a wobbly !!

You press the buttons, and the fans start blowing, the air gets hot, but the system does not seem to transfer the air flow to the windscreen like it normally does.

However, it does do it occasionly, it will even occasionaly phase in and out...

Anyone got any ideas where I start looking ?

Thanks in advance

Stuart

Well, since your getting the hot air to the heater box, and the problem is where it gets fed to then, I'd say its likely to be one of the electronic switches, or possibly a sticky flap (steady !).

The heaters on these things are very complicated.
I'm not sure which way round this goes, but in 95 they changed some of the actuators to vacuum from electronic (or vice versa).

I think this could be a job for the wiring diagram and shop manual I'm afraid.
Either that or go to a garage

They are one hell of a game to get to as well. I have an entire heater box sitting at home in the garage, so could take pics if you need me to. If so mail me direct and I'll get my camera out tonight.

Cheers,
John.

Stuart,

It is possible that one of your actuators that control the flaps, has got stuck, they can sometimes go 'over centre' and a little persuasion can sometimes free them, worth a go.

If you take your car to a specialist (I would be more than willing), they will connect the KTS300, which will then interrogate the central electrics which will store any faults.......easy !

Hi Stuart,

Since you say your interior fan is operating, seems your problem is different than the one I once had. Regardless, here's an excerpt from the receipt for the repair:

BTW, the fuse never did blow again ...
