Post Oil Change

I plan on changing my engine oil from Mobil 1-15W50 to Mobil 1-0W40 (European car formula) this weekend. Anybody have a recommendation on how to get as much of the 12 qts. out of the system as possible?

Usually, I just drain the sump and remove the oil line by the small filter but still only get about 9 qts.

Can't offer any tips, but I'll be interested to see if you can notice any differance. Where did you find the 0w 40?

Rich, don't forget to dump the oil out of the two filters, and that at least 1/2 quart comes out of the oil tube that should be disconnected at one end under the top filter.

When doing this, I get 10+ qts. out of the system.

Rich,

I had given some thoughts about draining more than 9 quarts out of the system in the past.

But my conculsion was that it was way too much trouble to the extra oil out.

Since the remaining oil you can't get out are in the oil pipe line that goes to the front oil cooler, and the oil in the oil cooler. Short or removing the thermostat and use compress air to blow them out, or to remove the oil cooler and drain it completely, I am not sure if there is any other easier way.
