I've just recently joined the forum and have enjoyed reading the threads. I have always known that Porsche owners are fanatics, but I never realized just how fanatical we all are. This is a good thing!
A little personal history. My first experience with the Porsche was a Speedster when I was in high school in New Hampshire. One of my teachers owned the Speedster, which he had restored. He drove it regularly and frequently with myself or another student in the passenger seat. It sank into my heart and soul completely.
Years passed with opportunities to drive various vintages of the 912 and 911 which were owned by friends and family. My wife and I have talked of owning our own 911 through the years, but it never came together until this Spring. A few years back my father passed away and left a small inheritance to us. We salted most of it into investments for retirement, dedicated a portion to fund my last daughter's college education, and a little was left over to bolster my small Porsche dream fund.
I began looking for the car in January and located the white 1996 Carrera in March here in Oregon in the garage of a broker. The car had a complete service record, 40K miles, and had two previous owners in California and New Mexico. I had it inspected locally which revealed no concerns. The broker wanted $38K, I bought it for $34.5K in anticipation of putting new tires on the rear and having annual maintenance completed etc. by the dealer.
So ... two weeks after taking possession, having the work done and with new tires broken in, my wife and I attended track day at Portland International Raceway with the local PCA chapter. She lapped with an instructor on board and I went it alone as I had prior training. A great day.
I drive the car no matter what the weather is doing ... it does rain here. My work requires a lot of travel ... hence the Ford Explorer. But when I am not travelling, I drive it the 23 miles to work one day a week. There are a lot of good snakey roads around here to vary the commute. We take it to the beach and the mountains and are planning a trip to British Columbia in October (part business).
Life has always been pretty good to us ... now with the Porsche in the garage, life is really good! And yes ... the fanatic in me is blossoming!

Hey Rick,
Welcome to the RennList and slippery slope of Porsche ownership.
Have you joined PCA? Our Oregon chapter has a great group of people
and lots of diversified events...check it out and the ORPAC website, especially the calendar.
I have been a member of ORPCA for about 6 years now and instruct at out DE events. Was that the tri-club track day you attended at PIR? I would be happy to instruct you or your wife anytime.
