Rookie Question: What is the "!" light on the dash?

The "!" means "warning", which basically mean there is something that's not right with the car. Could be something small like not having your parking brake lever released all the way down, or to something major like your ABS system is not working. The "!" is usually accompanied by another warning light that tells you exactly what else was wrong with the car.
The 993 door panels should be solid as a rock, they shouldn't be loose at all.

The most common cause for the (!) light to activate is low fuel. When you are on reserve the light kicks on.
The speakers in the door panels have brittle covers. Since the drivers door gets most of the use it gets kicked once in awhile when exiting the car with big feet.
More importantly look for evidence of peeled off track stickers (run groups etc. ...)
