Anyone saw this?

If that is really the new shape, I m kinda dissappointed. THe rear looks completely like a 996.

These spy photos never tell too much.

But I can assure all Porsche fans who think 993 looks better than 996 and doesn't like 996 so much,

You'll like new 911!!

FF... this is great to hear!!! Because, all the 993 crowd seems to be interested in are looks anyway (not performance)

Question

Could it be that we are all swayed more by the way a car looks than we admit?

At the end of the day; good or bad the 99X will have more in common with the 996 than the 993, but we may be more willing to accept it and (by default what is represents) due to the fact it 'looks' more like a 993.

Is it really that we don't like the way that the 996 looks/looked as opposed to the 'aircooled' feel/rawness/heritage?

Just throwing the thought out there.

I had better take cover now.

I'm sure if the 996 had the external beauty that complimented previous 911's, not a butcher job of "runny egg" head lamps and cheap plastic interiors (except '02 interiors..), then I think lots of us would give 996's more thought. These issues, plus lots of mechanical short-cuts (semi-dry sump, tranny that you can't crack open and change gears, etc...) plus a very non-pleasing aural experience (again '02's are much better..), are some reasons why I would never consider a 996.

If, on the other hand, they get the look right that excites me, plus improving the interior quality, and giving us 330+hp, then I think Porsche will finally have the recipe to keep us "old school" folks interested. As for water cooling, I think we're all willing to accept water cooling for the 21st century, at least I am...

BUT, I still don't want to sell my Polar Silver, roaring air-cooled, dry-sump, rockin' 993 coupe!!!!!

I would quibble with Kai 96's comment a little. The rear wheel section looks more like a 993 than a 996. The car definitely looks nicer than the 996. I am holding off judgement until some real photos come out.

I have no doubt that the 996 platform has much more to offer from a performance standpoint, but to me.......it lacks the character of the 911 bloodline. Very generic styling that needs some "curves" in the body. The spy photos of the 997 show a hint of an improvement, but still not nearly as sexy as a 993!

I think they need to work on firming up the suspension.
Thanks for the photo Kai 96 993 <img src="graemlins/wave.gif" border="0" alt="[byebye]" />

The quality of these photos and the video is too good.
I smell a rat.
Either Porsche have a major leak or this is just a clever form of advanced marketing.

Before you get too excited, this is how they camouflaged the 993 before it came out... They do a good job...

Scott,

It sure was great to hear this but I don't agree that 'we' 993 (or older) guys are all about the looks, I think I've heard words rawness, feel, aural, handling etc. mentioned more than on one occasion...
Let's just leave it like that.

And I'm sure the new 911 will have more power too.
