Question Transmission fluid change

Need to change trans. fluid on my '98 C2S, 30k miles. What brand, type, weight(70W90?), etc. should be used? Any tips with this procedure would be appreciated. Thanks all.

I just flushed mine with Mobil 1 gear oil. Took almost 4 qts. You definitely need a tube or pump ($3 at any autoparts store) as the bottles won't pour into the fill tube. Lot's of splatter too and it was BLACK. Mine shifts a little smoother now. (Someone told me to boil the crush rings in water for a few minutes and they will expand, in case you don't have replacements.) If your shifting feels worn or notchy, I've seen folks recommend Swepco 201 gear oil, but you have to order that and Mobil 1 is everywhere.

Good luck.

Search the archives on this one. I changed to amsoil 75w90 ( the blue stuff ) and am happy with it. The 4% increase in fuel economy is pretty significant.. NOT!

I also did a write up of some other helpful hints after using Robin's DIY:

I did mine with Mobil 1, and introduced a horrific 2nd gear crunch when the car was hot. I changed to the Swepco 201, and haven't heard a peep from the tranny.

Weird since I had the same problem with Mobil 1 - but only the first time shifting into 2nd when car is cold. During the summer this doesn't happen at all. Others have stated the same with Mobil 1, crunch into 2nd when cold.

OTOH, the smooth feel of shifting has significantly increased since changing to Mobil 1, very enjoyable.

Installed RS LWF and filled tranny with Swepco. Very noisy rattling, due do LWF (and no dual mass to dampen noise). Really was loud when fluid was at temp.

Drained and filled with Mobil 1 75-90W, and oh so much better. I've even heard that G50 trannies are happiest with Mobil One. If race folks use it, good enough for me.

Bottom line, Mobil One's my only choice..
