Unhappy 993 Cabriolet Blind-Spot

This past weekend while enjoying the highway I went to change lanes to the right. After looking all around, including checking all of the mirrors, I made my move and almost ran into a car on my right! I did NOT see the car! After that I played around with the right side mirror adjustment and cannot find a good setting. The best I can do with the mirror is set it full right. Driving by cars on my right I still have a place where they are completely hidden. Has anyone experienced this?
Is there an aftermarket mirror which is more convex?
Imagine the visibility problem I would have if I had the top up!

This is one of the few flaws I discovered after purchasing a 993 Cab. I've owned the car for almost 6.5 years and I always check and recheck my blind spot before changing lanes.
Even with the passenger side view mirror fully extended, it doesn't help. I've looked around for better aftermarket mirrors but none satisfactory and I personally find blind spot mirrors useless (IMO).

Only solution is to be EXTRA careful when you switch lanes.

Interesting, when reading your post I assumed you had the top up, because yes, there is a large blind spot there. I do not have the same problem with the top down, but I also set the seat up high, which is a personal preference. One thing you could try are these stick on rear view mirror pads that are more concave, they have them at Brookstone, but you can probably get them at any auto parts store for less money. I personlly do not like them on my car, but My 79 year old father loves them. I do, however use them at work and attach them to my Monitor so no one can sneak up on me. <img src="graemlins/yltype.gif" border="0" alt="[typing]" />

You guys scare me. I thought i had it set up so that if i don't see a car in my rear mirror and my right side mirror then there is no car (top up). I set my side mirrors so outward that i don't even see the my rear fenders. Haven't got a problem YET. I guess i'd better double check. My Miata was much worst.

All convertibles are that way (I have a 2000 Corvette). I ALWAYS turn my head and look back before changing lanes

Kim, I was talking about with the top up. That's what i like about the Miata, with the top down, you are really exposed and can rest your arm on the door.

Get the 'Broadway' mirror. You can find them from any Rice-Rocket shop. The mirror snap onto the OEM rear view mirror.

My brother, who knows about these things, told me to sit in the driver's seat as you were driving and put the right mirror such that you have to lean right to see your rear fender in the mirror. He swears that is how to eliminate blind spots. So far so good, as I tend to lean and drive to the right!

From the RTA manual....

"Blind spots exist to the immediate rear and side of the driver, whether or not outside mirrors are fitted. When outside mirrors are fitted, the spot is not as close to the side of the vehicle.
Blind spots can be demonstrated by driving very slowly beside a parked vehicle and seeing the difference between mirror vision and reality. When driving, blind spots are checked by a quick glance over the shoulder."

Sorta off topic but I almost got taken out by a Suburban yesterday. I don't think the person even looked in a mirror at all before attempting the lane change.
