Post 993 newbie

Hey there. Recently I purchased a 95 993.

What chip does the board recommend? RSR exhaust worth the money?

Anyone know where I can find sound clips?

Thanks. Kyu.

Welcome to the board! Next time, try doing a search for your questions; there are lots of threads on your queries.

The Rennsport chip sold by Rennlist Sponsor and Tech Advisor Steve Weiner gets lots of airtime here, and adds a noticeable amount of horsepower gain for minimal trouble. No chip is going to give you a huge performance gain. I just installed it last weekend and can say that the car feels much juicier.

The RSR mufflers are great and cost a bit over $400, a substantially lower price than other aftermarket exhausts that may be excessively loud or boomy. The sound is rich and burbly.

Thanks Mark. I did a search and found a wealth of info.

Post was a momentary lapse I guess.

Sound clips won't do either muffler justice.

If you live in the LA area, come on by one weekend and hear both.

Kyu - glad to be of help!

Mark O - I guess descriptions of horsepower gains and vehicular thrust are subjective. You say "mad" and I say "juicier". I agree with you on the torque curve and definitely feel a difference. But, according to Mr. Weiner, the power increase is 15-18 HP, at least in my 95 OBDI car. That's only a 6% bump, which, IMHO, is a small, but not huge, increase.

Now, if the chip added 20% or 54 HP, THAT would be huge.

I have often thought about upgrading my chip and have not. My main reason is centered around the fact that the actual horsepower/torque gains are very minimal when you compare it to the track. Driver capability can easily waste the small gains provided by the chip or can be used to the full extent if driven properly. You need to decide.

I have Steves chip and RSR's, the chip has been installed for about 3 months or so and there is a noticable gain in torque and it seems like a little pick up at lower R's in 3rd and 4th. The RSR's out of everything I have bought were the best money spent they sound incredible. I have not heard of one person unhappy with them.

Like others have said SPEND wisely before you know it you will have a full out race car. This place is dangerous for you bank account.

Welcome to the board. Please two two things immmediately - become an offical rennlist member by paying a few bucks and then hide your checkbook so you are not overly tempted to buy too many goodies for your car.

Hmmm. Of all the mods I've done, I think the only thing cheaper than Steve's chip was the strut tower brace. If all the mods provided a 1% gain for $100, I would have a car hundreds of times better than the original! I think the chip is a great bang-for-the-buck.

It might only be 5-6% more power, but when I'm trying to beat Boris or one of the Tim's at an autocross, I'll take every percent of advantage I can get. That way I feel good at the end of the day and they are forced to wait for their next chance to stomp on me. (Besides, everyone knows that horsepower more than compensates for poor driving skills, right? )
