Dan is the guy to whom I've entrusted my public image, since he so graciously hosts my avatar.

Why my wife has even retained him as her attorney. I would never say anything bad about him.

Besides, I was always taught to show respect for my elders.

I also knew who it had to be the moment Mick mentioned St. Louis.

After some hesitancy, & at the risk of sounding idealistic, I am responding to this thread. Thanks to Mick, Robin & others for your kind words. Over the years many here have offered assistance to R-listers – sometimes car related & sometimes not. I have also received a great deal of assistance from many R-listers – sometimes car related & sometimes not (& you know who you are). Many here have devoted substantial amounts of their valuable time & energy to inspecting cars, writing up DIYs, compiling FAQs, maintaining websites, etc. for the benefit of others. Apart from a very few venders, none gets financially compensated for their efforts. I like to think the real compensation is the satisfaction one gets from helping another person - and knowing that if we ever need help – it’s there for the asking (w/in reason, of course). That’s the nature of the balance in this community.

I feel compelled to add that despite all the lawyer jokes, each day lawyers across the country provide tens of thousands of hours of free legal services to agencies, charities, & individuals in need. Indeed, it is expected within the profession that we give back to our communities. I’d venture a guess that the total economic value of such pro bono (for the public good) services far exceeds that of any other profession.

In Mick’s family situation it is I who am thankful for the opportunity to have been able to use my professional training & skills to, in the course of a morning, make a (small) difference in the life of an extremely nice young woman & her worried dad. Their smiles of relief & their heartfelt thanks were greater payment & meant far more to me than had I charged a fee. There is truth in “it’s better to give than to receive.”

As an aside, I’ll add that although I didn’t know it when I signed on, Mick’s daughter is an absolute doll.

Oh yeah Mick – nice car & perhaps we’ll still get that opportunity to talk Porsche’s over a cold one. Thanks again for your trust.

Nice story, that is why Rennlist is special. The board is good enough that people will frequent it over a long period of time, long enough to make real friends.

This is true. Some of my best friendships in Kentucky were born out of Rennlist (and track days!). Who woulda thunk it? I still remember the day that Greg took a chance on e-mailing me, and I told my wife that I was being stalked by some guy from a message board.
