Post How to tie down a 993 to a flat bed tow truck is not so simple?

My comments on this subject can be a question or taken as advice. I recently needed to flat bed my car ( see my post on the starter relay) and the owners manual gives advice on how to tie the car down using nylon tow straps through the wheels. All the tow places I called had nothing suitable so I supplied my own, which I happen to borrow from work. Now this was not a major inconvenience as the car was broken down in my garage, but what if I was far from home and my resources and no trucks carried the straps? should I now carry a set of straps? I can see why Porsche recomends strapping through the wheel as there aint a lot hanging down under the car to chain to and who wants to hook a chain to all that aluminum. Is there a safe place to chain to? or should you always follow the owners manual or risk bad things?
