Default 1997 Convertible Top Microswitch Repair

Hello all,

Over the years, I've had to replace my convertible top latching motor microswitches on several occasions. I think it was due to a misaligned top / top drive that cause the top to slam down on the window frame, so I'm sure I stressed the switches. What fails (breaks) is the spring that actuates the switch arm. These switches cost $272 at Pelican parts, and the switch is good except for a 10 cent spring. Is anyone aware of replacement springs or some type of substitute that would work. I have a handful of switches that I could repair. Seems like it's not that hard to take them apart and rebuild them.

Thank you,

KMS

You use the word "slam".......mine used to and my convertible top guy shortened the cables and it comes down softly now and works better overall.........you might check that out another time to alleviate issues that may arise from the hard close.......

My friend with a new to him 993 went to my guy and had his cables shortened and now has a soft landing..........when I first shut his top, it was almost a violent closing bouncing off the window frame latches...........

with your micro switch in present condition, was your warning light activated indicating the top not being closed??

I agree with a abiazis. You must repair the underlying issue which is the top slamming. Although I haven't had my cables shortened, I took my car to a professional and had the top repaired before I caused any damage. I have no idea what the shop did, but my convertible top opens and closes properly, and electrically, as designed.

Thanks folks. I did fix the top a few weeks ago and it closed smoothly. The arms of the top mechanism lock into the gears with a keyed washer. These washers had come out of their position, allowing it to slip in the way down. That wasn’t always the reason but it was the latest one. Before I troubleshot and fixed it I would just baby the top closed, apparently not as good as I should have.
