Here's one more oddity. If I'm not mistake, a 993 alternator should rate at 175A at 14V. Most alternators I'm seeing, including the ones from dealers, claim to be 115 Amps. Am I missing something here or are they all repeating somebody's error?
This car's been eating alternator belts for a while, I think I was on my 4th one n 8 years.
Hi Nile,
This may be a dumb question, but have you applied the factory pulley update and, do use a tensioning gauge when replacing belts?
A section near the bottom of this page touches on this: https://993servicerepair.blogspot.co...lays-keys.html

Andy, the pulley is original. The last belt was installed by a professional Porsche guy, so I'm sure it's been tensioned fine. I'll be installing another one tomorrow, hopefully, we'll see what it does.
Thanks! Ballpark do you recall what they charge and how long they take to rebuild?
turn around time was relatively quick, didn’t make note of the cost…as it was part of the Clewett install that @AOW162435 did for me at the time. Andreas has sent quite a few there over the years.
Thanks, Castus! I'll have to figure the logistics of all this. Do you remember how long they took to rebuild? I'll be calling them shortly just to have the moving pieces of this puzzle known. So far it's not been easy, even belts are not available at local stores. Which is odd.
I think the turnaround was less than a week. They were pretty easy to work with so I’m sure they could get it done quick if requested.
I had mine rebuilt yesterday by Alternators Unlimited in Berkeley,CA 510-527-7773. Its a two man shop (Father and Son) and have been in business decades. They rebuilt mine with two new HQ bearings, needed lathe work and I furnished them a new Bosch Regulator for $221.
