There never was a 964/993 175A, only a 115A.

Maybe he speaks of the new non-bosch alternators that are available in a higher amperage ratings.

Isn't there anyone that rebuilds alternators?

There're sources here in SoCal. The key is having a good core, e.g. no damaged rotor threads.

Hi Nile,
This may be a dumb question, but have you applied the factory pulley update and, do use a tensioning gauge when replacing belts?
A section near the bottom of this page touches on this:

Andy, the pulley is original. The last belt was installed by a professional Porsche guy, so I'm sure it's been tensioned fine. I'll be installing another one tomorrow, hopefully, we'll see what it does.

turn around time was relatively quick, didn’t make note of the cost…as it was part of the Clewett install that @AOW162435 did for me at the time. Andreas has sent quite a few there over the years.

I think the turnaround was less than a week. They were pretty easy to work with so I’m sure they could get it done quick if requested.

I think it's around $225 or so. If you call, ask for Bart. Their number is (717) 399-9951.
I just dropped off an alternator with him this morning.

Local shop just rebuilt one for me. $145 and one day turnaround. Easy peasy.

I had mine rebuilt yesterday by Alternators Unlimited in Berkeley,CA 510-527-7773. Its a two man shop (Father and Son) and have been in business decades. They rebuilt mine with two new HQ bearings, needed lathe work and I furnished them a new Bosch Regulator for $221.
