Post Is there a 993 muffler "bypass pipe"?

I had muffler bypass pipes for my 964 for when I did track events -- I had problems hearing the engine with windows down and helmet on until I bought the pipes.

Does anyone know if there are muffler bypass pipes for our 993s? It looks like it would be a simple bend from the catalyst output to down to the opening in the rear valance.

Thanks!

John

John,

Yes, there is. But in order for your OBD2 993 to work with it without setting off check engine light you need to get the oxygen sensor duplicator that fools the DME that the 2nd sets of the o2 sensor is working properly.

Hi Robin!

I wasn't clear enough. I want to leave the catalytic converters in -- I simply want to replace the mufflers with a "straight pipe."

If I recall correctly, the second sets of O2 sensors were installed downstream of the catalytic convertor but before the mufflers.

This is for a C2S in case it matters.

Thanks,

John

OH, sorry. My fault. I thought you were talking about the CAT by-pass.

John,

You could get the Fabspeed Supercup mufflers. They're definitely loud enough.

I've got them, and I like them, but they're pretty loud for the street.

DJ, I had the Maxflo on my car for a few days and that had too much boomy resonance for daily driving for my tastes!

I also don't want to pay $1k.

So, at this point, I'm going to check with my machine shop and/or a muffler place to get some ideas on making a set of pipes.

Thanks for the replies.

I like the idea of the Supercups but am concerned about them being too loud. Are they loud even if you are driving softly? Can you sneak in and out of the neighborhood?

That is a very valid concern.

Are they loud even if you are driving softly?
Yes, very.

Can you sneak in and out of the neighborhood?
No. But your car will sound just like a race car.

John,
I have these pipes on my race car. I will be at VIR this weekend and you are welcome to ride and listen all you want. Even with the baffles I think they are too loud for a street car, especially if you thought the Maxflo version was too much.
See you at VIR!

Wink

Can you sneak in and out of the neighborhood?
Yes, if your neighborhood happens to be adjacent to an artillery range.

John,

I really think you will be sorry if you put on straight pipes and drive the car on the street. It will be VERY loud!

Hey MAZ, how about tapping your Caps Lock Key... you're SHOUTING!

Rick,

You're absolutely right. I am only wanting to use these straight pipes AT THE TRACK. I had post-cat straight pipes on my 964 Cup Car and it was perfect for the track, but not for the road.

Greg, thanks -- I'm looking forward to hearing your car at VIR on Friday!

Fabspeed was the 1st company to offer SUPERCUP pipes for 993s. Youll get over 11hp with open pipes at the rear wheels on any 993. You can sneak in and out of neighborhoods BUT the exhaust is not for the meek or mild at heart. If you like Harleys or Muscle cars or the sound of a Supercup 3.8Liter car at the track this is your exhaust. Something less loud but almost equal power is the Fabspeed Motorsport Maxflo exhaust system.
