My dashboard - or something in the dashboard area - is making a bad squeaky noise. It is like plastic rubbing on plastic. I had the car already in the shop, but they couldn't find anything. I found a posting on the message board recommending to loosen the screw behind the ashtray and tighten it again. Did that, but no improvement. Any other tips for this problem?

Not sure if your problem is something loose or something rubbing, but sometimes I have solved the rubbing problem by wiping down with Lexol pH Cleaner.

 

Where in the dashboard is this squeak coming from? Could this be the standard 993 windshield squeak? When I first heard my windshield squeak, I thought it was coming from the dash, somewhere up near the defroster vents. There are numerous solutions to this squeak; check the archives (inculde the old board), it’s discussed quite frequently. I put wheel bearing grease under the seal around the glass (outside!). This lasts about a year. Next time perhaps I’ll try that foam rope solution.
