Default Updated transmission undertray

Just sharing since everyone appreciates pictures...

I ordered a new transmission undertray from Porsche given my car did not come with one. I had been looking for one in good condition with little to no road rash and finally found one a few weeks ago BUT... for just $60 extra, I could get a brand new one from Delaware Porsche and decided to go that route.

When it arrived, I was surprised to see it is now a two piece design with the 'duct' part riveted to the main part of the tray. Fit and finish isn't the greatest but I've decided to forego letting it bother me too much (very out of character for me) considering it faces the ground. Thought I'd share some pics so that others can see the updated part.

I'll add that I'm also not impressed with the large blemish to the right of the duct (marble/swirl looking area). The FRP (fiber reinforced plastic) has a very rough texture there where the finish is a bit lack-luster.

In hindsight, I should have saved the $60 and gone with the used original one. Looks much nicer than this brand new one I got from Porsche but again, given no one ever sees it and this will spend it's life three inches from the ground, I'll worry about more important things (after a few therapy sessions). First pic is the brand new one I just got. Second pic is the older style one piece design.

Both photos load fine for me on two different computers and my phone.

You don’t see them?

The pics are there, I'm with you the riveted in place duct and the swirl makes for a less than desired result given factory new part.

Interesting. Almost as if two models of the undertray were combined by the vendor.

Knowing you, the search for a clean used one will remain active.

That new part looks terrible, almost a homemade cob of two older pieces. I could see two piece for easier/lower cost manufacturing but the cutout is way bigger on the left side (of the photo) than it needed to be and poorly done.
The bottom side of my car is almost better looking than the top!
You won't be able to live with that on your otherwise near perfect build.

Minty fresh car, too bad about the undertray and those valve stem caps, yeesh!

j/k, I would just use it and not worry about it.

Hi Boom Boom,
Very odd. It makes me think the part you have is some sort of customer returned part that was chopped up or a conversion of another part, say one for the TIP tranny.
I would call the folks you purchased it from or a dealer and ask them to send you a picture of a new part they have in inventory.
I also have a nice used one around here for the six speed if you prefer it I can send to you. PM me if you want it.
I spray painted the words "put me back on" on the cover on my car so it does not disapper at some future servicing.

Yep - probably should have saved the money. But, it's only a small mistake. Install it and move on. It's just an under-tray.

When am I buying you a coffee at Sunday Motor? I'd like to see the car.

Andy- as mentioned, this is brand new from Porsche dealer and came from regional inventory.

It's an updated design (don't ask me why the design change) but both the larger piece and the smaller one have the part numbers on them (so it's not like someone randomly mended these together, they are designed this way now).

Lastly, a tiptronic cover is radically different (shown below).

This is a good example of why I now don't generally buy Porsche branded parts - the parts made today for Porsche for the 993 are nowhere near the quality of the parts made at the time of current model 993 manufacture.

Didn't we also see the same drop in quality of the engine-bay 'spoiler-wall' a few years back?

Don't worry, Mike's bedside manner has no effect on me. He already knew there was no way in hell I was keeping it. HAHA!

Delaware Porsche has already sent me the return instructions. And I just purchased that really clean used one in the reference photo above. Everyone can freely bash the updated version.

I cannot wait to see you and your car in the future. I plan on bringing mirrors so we all can see the new updated design on your elfer.

I'm an engineer, not a doctor. Nothing personal in that world!

Poor job by Porsche on that part redesign. And probably not cheap either.
