If you install the trumpet and at the same time perforate your airbox exactly like thr motorsound will you have the sound that is supposed to be with the perforated AIR BOX?

Thx

Georges,
if I can understand your question to mean does the trumpet take away from the motorsound airbox sound the answer is no it does not.

I drilled out my airbox based on Robin's example before I read his experiment about the slight increase in intake air temperature. I subsequently added the trumpet, and noticed a very slight change in the sound at part throttle. At WOT, it howls like a banshee, which is fine with me. How you drill out the airbox will affect how it sounds, I went on the theory that more is better.

I suppose for an track event, I could tape up the holes on the side but I never have bothered.

It looks like from the pic that the trumpet gets in the way of the oil fill, dip stick and power steering fluid reservoir. Any trouble with this?

Take a stock airbox, cut it like the fabspeed box but leave the hole for the trumpet & attach it then you will have the best of both worlds!!! I will be doing this as soon as I get a dremal!!!

the trumpet makes no difference in accessing anything in the engine compartment.
If you would like I could take a picture from a different angle and provide it to you.

The idea of pulling cool air into the engine compartment VS hot engine air was appealing to me. Robin Sun's article documenting this fact helped in my decision. In addition, ANDIAL (Pete Wetzel) was recommending the trumpet as an inexpensive mini-performance mod. Pte has never steered me wrong.

And, the fact that the 993TT is the origin of the trumpet was the icing on the cake for me, so to speak. If it is good enough for a TT, it is good enough for me!

Having gone from factory motorsound air box to the trumpet, I will report one major change. The induction noise that came on at 5,000 RPM, that I once used as an aural tach at the track is gone is gone.

Note, you can't install a trumpet on a car that has a motorized spoiler. This mod is for the manly men (& women) that have added a fixed spoiler. The clearance is not there, UNLESS, you shorten the trumpet .

I am running both, the factory motorsound and the trumpet, my theory is that the trumpet pulls at lower rpm and that at WOT the motorsound allows more air in which at higher speeds would not have much time to heat up.
To verify we would have to do the air temp test with either and both.
Regardless I still get that wonderfull sound.
Try it you may like it.
Speaking of Andial, the other thing they have that I believ is worth trying is the inexpensive 2 deg timing block. Talk to Peter about it.

Levino,

Do you know how much the 2 deg timing block costs?

Andial will not sell the part....they only install it on customer cars.
