Default Ceramic pro gone bad

Appreciate any opinions. Took my 1995 993 to a ceramic pro elite dealer in Florida. Previously had car wet sanded buffed about 7 years ago and it looked great. Well dealer said paint correction needed to be done again before 5 year coating. Well when I went to pick up car they admitted they burned through the paint when buffing. Blamed it on a previous respray (never happened) and they resprayed it at the shop before I knew.,had me come back with it 4 weeks later and it looks like crap. I think what got me mad was he said it looked good. Orange peel specks In the paint (which dealer blamed on fiberglass in a car cover ( sorry but cover is 100% cotton) so I’m getting top resprayed not through him as I have no confidence in them or their reference shop.first step see if he pays up. Second dispute work on CC charge. Third small claims court. Sad thing this could have all been prevented with a paint meter.

What was the story they gave you for keeping the car 4 weeks for paint correction and ceramic coating? this is like a 2-3 day process at most.

It was to let therespray of the roof cure. Rest of car is good they burnt through the paint on the roof which needs a strip down and another respray. Never let me know until first visit that they screwed up the roof. That fix by them looks horrible

Unfortunately this is all too common, where shops either try to hide issues, or don't want to take care of them when they come up. You'll also find that if you start asking around more about many of these shops, you'll find out their business practices that you're experiencing are common (you're not the first one to have that experience at a specific shop). Now, on the other hand, many shops are very good but I've heard too many instances of people talking up a shop and then when you go there the experience is totally different.

I would be doing exactly what you're doing. First, get it fixed. Approach the shop with the bill. If they're willing to pay even for half or 3/4 of the work, depending on how much it is, I'd probably just move on with life and choose to never do business with them again. You could go the CC dispute route, which is a viable option, one of the advantages that you have when paying with credit card. No way would I go to small claims court over this. Needing to take time off work and the frustration of dedicating mental calories to it isn't worth it to me. I'm a big believer that karma is real and what goes around comes around. If you just move on with your life, you will go further than that shop.

I would have thought a professional shop would have taken a few paint thickness measurements before getting the cutting compound out.
what is the paint thickness ? 0.005”?
how many times can you cut that down before it’s gone?

It was never clear to me why any of the popular abrasive processes are needed on clear-coat car finishes. I have used a foam buffing wheel with synthetic polish without issue resuting in outstanding results on our daily driver cars.
Why accelerate the aging of the finish of the car by using abrasives?
Also I have never heard of clearcoat failing (orange peel) on a factory finish of a 993 where it is quite common if an aftermarket acrylic vs a 2K finish is applied.

Update
1. dealer when he burnt through paint in the polishing prior to coating. He apparently resprayed at his shop (nhumid Florida air no paint booth)
2 when going back to polish paint second time after respray noted solvent drops scratches etc. then they coated
3 tried to blame solvent spots as fiberglass from car cover (bs) went To 9 motion today in riviera beach (top notch) everyone expressed their condolences for such a f’d up job done and will fix it (probably $3k) job. Noticed tons of high spots with the job the ceramic guy did on other panels
. It’s horrible the PCA puts in its newsletter how great ceramic pro is and directs you to their elite dealer. Well this elite dealer is $based not quality based. the aggravation alone is bad enough. Now let’s see if ceramic pro “elite” clown stands up to his word or AMEX gets my call this week. If not I’m retired and look forward to dragging his but into small claims court.
