CLL ACAB,

Sounds good and I'm assuming that was with Safelite? Did they came out to the house or did you have to go in to their shop?

They said that they will cover any damages that might occur while installing or uninstalling the glass. God forbid. Warranty is for however long I own the car.

Because it was covered by the dealer (the glass was cracked during a test drive - rock) it was Porsche glass and they came to my house. But I have used Safelite before. They did my wife's GS400 last year, also at the house, looks fine, no problems, and you can't tell the difference between OEM and Safelite.

My Safelite install used their glass which looked identical to my oem re: tinting, antenna & black areas. I watched the (experienced) tech do the antenna connection which was surprisingly easy after he undid the passenger side trunk shock to gain hand access. No removal of dash as has been suggested in other threads. It's prudent to ask about the tech's 911 experience so yours isn't on the job training. I was told the dry time for the sealant used was a few hours & it was good to go, but after a relaxed drive home I let it sit overnight anyway.

Scott,

Keep me updated on whether you go with Safelite and your experience with them. They are about a mile away from me and it would be most convenient to take my car there. Thanks.

Scott,

The Safelite for $500- is sensational price. I did mine at Claridge (in Fremont) last December, with Porsche OEM glass, and it ran over $1,100.

Lucky the guilty party paid.

I just got my 993 about three weeks ago. One thing the PO mentioned was that 993 windshields are notorious for squeaking. So, when he had his (mine) replaced they put in some type of band or internal seal (sorry, don't quite remember anything he said. To busy disbelieving it was going to be my car). He said that if I had the glass replaced to make sure they replaced that band/seal with the same one at a minimum and preferably a new one.

So, was it that my brain was mush from sensory overload or is this true? Just thought I would bring it up incase it was.

Is it called the Rope? I saw on a previous thread some people had mentioned this. I am going to give Safelite another try. When I first called them and I asked if they worked on Porsches? The reply was "We don't work on houses!" He must have thought I said Porches!!

Yes, Porsche released a TSB on 993 windshield squeaks that specified putting a extra rope-like gasket in the windshield. Don't know what the part number was offhand, though. Should be info on it in the archives.

I had a windshield replacement a few days ago and they put a sigla windshield in. Looks exactly like the original but I paid 1100$.
500$ for the windshield, work included seems very cheap.

I got my windshield replaced yesterday by "Safelite" thanks everyone for those that referred me to them. They did a Fantastic job!!!!

They used Premium Glass so I did get the Sigla Factory Glass. Luckily my insurance paid for the glass so out of the pocket expense was only my deductable. If I were to pay for it out right it was $800.00 bucks.

Nelson-

The installer is David Heller he's actually one Mgr/trainer of all the Techs in the Bay Area so he takes the more difficult or high-end cars. He's done a lot of P-Car windows for TRG out at Sears Point.

He said he's going to be at the San Francisco store for the next 2 weeks so give them a call and ask for him.

My Sigla windshield from put in by Safelite is now about a week old. Initially it creaked a little bit, but now its creaking like crazy. I'll put in a call tomorrow morning and hope they can fix it quickly.

Cool, thanks for the report Scott. Where is David Heller usually located at? And how did you decide to go with the OEM sigla glass vs. the non-oem which is supposed to pit less?

Hey Nelson,

David usually works out of the Union City Store. But the Mgr for the SF store is going on vacation for 2 weeks so he's going to be working over there.

Originally Safelite quoted me for their glass and then they called me back saying that they no longer use that glass and I had to go with the Premium glass which is Sigla. I talked to my friend who owns Partsheaven and he said that the Premium glass would be Sigla and sure enough it was.

And then when I talked to David and his Mgr they both said that they use Sigla glass for the German cars. Not sure about the High-end Japanese cars though I didn't ask.
