Question Inside finish of RS wing

I have an aftermarket RS wing of unknown origin. The exterior fit and finish is perfect, but the interior is UGLY. When you stand over the car and look through the grille, you can see the unfinished rough fiberglass. I painted it black and assumed it would not be noticible, but I was wrong. It finally bugged me enough so that last night I took the wing off to finish the inside. Then I realized that I am not sure what to do. I could either use filler to smooth it out & re- paint the inside (a lot of work), or I could probably mask the uneven finish with the Wurth wrinkle paint. Does anyone know what the inside of the factory wing looks like? Thanks for the help.

I have a factory RSCS wing and it has the raw fiberglass interior. However, it also has a large plastic venting piece that covers a large area of the interior, so it's not as noticable.

This is all the more reason for a proper c/f example where the inside finish is typically very presentable

Now where is that PET p/n for extra time?

My factory RSCS wing is finished nicely in the inside and has the small metal tag that factory wings had which displays the serial number.

Not to be a smart ***...but you'll get used to it...that is the way of the aftermarket tails that I have seen. Mine is painted flat black...you really have to look to see it. A factory RS tail is about $2,000 + prep and paint.

Thanks for the info guys. I think I'll try the wrinkle paint and flat black finish this weekend. I figure a couple coats of wrinkle paint will hid the fiberglass. I'll let you know how it works

I've been helping a friend build his Cobra.

I did all the hole cutting for the bumpers, the WS mounts etc. I used the small cutting bit in a Dremel kit. Did a fine job even on rough edges.

You might try it before painting..

Good luck

Sorry to bring this post back from the dead, but I'm doing some prelimnary RS wing fitting and have a couple of questions.

In this picture, does anyone know where to get that plastic piece fitted inside the wing? I've looked in the PET and find no part pictured in there.

Monique, would you please tell me what the inside of the stock RS wing towards the back is like? Is it hollow or filled with something? ie foam filler? If you could take some pics of that area I would really appreciate it. Also, are there only six bolts that attach the wing to the deck?

Mahalo!!

Monique, would you mind taking a picture of your RS from the back, with the camera height about 1.5 meters from the ground please.. Like your first picture above BUT at much lower angle. I just want to see if it the wing kinda steal the muscular looks of the rear fenders. Thank you much.

Did someone call me??

Please ignore the mess in my garage. I am preparing the car for show.. to make an omelet, you break some eggs.

Reread this thread and here are my findings: my wing is fiberglass. There are no visible seams and the 1 1/2 inch holes are cut out after manufacturing and polished. The grille is glued in at the contact points. Tried to pry it open... I like this forum but not enough to give myself a PITA

Light weight given the size: 5.3 kgs. = 11.7 pounds

Ignoring the grille, the non red areas are painted black.

So that black plastic "skirt" around the perimeter of the opening is glued onto the FG wing? Do you know if it's available from Porsche separately?

Thanks!!

Kelly, there are no glued in pieces other than the grille itself. The rest is one piece... neat trick if you ask me. Skirt is painted black

I think the grille should be avail thru Porsche.
