Post Just another weekend drive :)

Hellow, all!

I just came back from a weekend TimeTrial at Buttonwillow Raceway...what a blast! It's a great track...very technical with what seems like a gazillion turns with lots of variety: fast sweepers, hairpins, chicanes, and two fast straights! It was my first time there and I just had to celebrate. Thanks, all, for indulging and letting me share

What was the track configuration? Just curious, I was out there last December for a test day. I think I was the only guy with a street car without mods...my old e30 m3. It was pretty hairy with a lot of people on the track at the same time. We were running clockwise, full track and I was basically forced off the track a few times due to spin outs in front of me.

Two near crashes were from the pro-7 Rx7's and the other from a crazy guy in a hopped up civic...he totally lost it over what I guess is called magic mtn.

Anyone go out on Fridays for open track time?
What group did you run in?

Jason,

They ran the full course, clockwise, Saturday and Sunday. I ran in the Time Trial group. I didn't see any "incidences" in the race group, but there were definitely a few in the novice TTrial runs. Spins here and there, a few "off road" excursions, and few off "Magic Mtn." ...one right in front of me. It seems that someone two cars up goofed up on the hill and spun coming down; the car immediately in front of me BARELY missed his, spinning himself! I like to keep a bit of cushion between me and the guy up front (at least up until the turn before a long straight ) and man did it pay off here. Altercations happen so quickly, I'm glad I had that space to safely evade that mess.
In terms of cars, it was an ALFA event so they were the majority, but there were lots of cars ranging from the requisite vettes and porsches and one viper, bone stock to full race prep. And there was one Fully-prepped E30 M3 that you would've liked. Quite a few subarus but one VERY fast WRX showed up, but he ended up with mechanical issues by mid Sunday (no comment )
All in all, a fun weekend, to say the least! I'd recommend a DE to anyone who hasn't experienced their car on the track...what an eye opener! Again, thanks for indulging my grins. I can't imagine what the grins must be like for those of you who race!

Glad you had a good time and avoided any tie-ups. I have heard the alfa club is a good group of guys and very open to Porsche/BMW owners etc. My friend has an M coupe, along with a couple of nice 911's, that he uses only for track events. He has run with the alfa guys a lot.

I paid for a Driver Test Card/Pass when I was at Buttonwillow last Dec., believe it was $250. Anyway, this card allows me to go to any open test day. It's June already and I haven't made it yet! Guess I need to get up there to get my money's worth.
