De-ionizing water is a very expensive process guys. College chem labs do it to remove all minerals (spots on your car) a paper (whatever the material) filter does not de-ionize water rather it removes any particles within the water.....not the chemicals which are dissolved in it. I have designed numerous sewege and water treatment plants, no plant deionizes water...way too expensive (wouldn't have a taste either). If using a water softener remeber that they are recharged using salt as the agent to transfer the (dissolved) captured.

Ron,
I think the system you are refering to actually removes all chemicals (deionizes).
