How does the 993's Tiptronic compare to the 997.1's?
If I were to daily drive a 993 C2S... in D (Tiptronic), or go for a spirited drive (no tracking) how would the experience compare to doing the same in, for example, a 997.1TT (also a Tiptronic and in D)?
Purely inquiring about their transmission tech, I am aware of the wide gap in actual performance. Please excuse the asininity of this topic.

I drove a 1997 993 C2 triptronic and I wasn't impressed. It feels very very slow compared to my C2. I tried to control the shifting at the higher rpm using the buttons on the steering wheels but it barely got me engaged. There's something about shifting at 4-5K rpm that is difficult to replace.

It doesn't compare. It's an ancient slushbox compared to a new TT DCT. If you came from the newer car to the 993, you'll leave disappointed.

Didn't answer the question. The 997.1 is still a Mercedes automatic "Tipronic". PDK was with 997.2 cars. The 997 (or 996) tips should be much better than the tip in the 993 as the later one has a bunch of computer controls which in theory should be smarter/better.
Actually not a bad question.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't the later 993 get the Tiptronic S version which has some of the computer program that adjusts to the driver's habits. Driving it in the manual mode is actually a blast if done right, and very responsive. Also, the 997.1 is 2 generations, water cooled vs air cooled, etc. beyond the 993 generation and has maybe 70+ more horsepower to boot. Both 911's but one is way more advanced making true comparisons difficult.

You can't really even compare the cars they're attached to...
