Default 993 running temp

Guys ,I have attached a picture of my temp gauge at running temp.

Do you beleive that this is normal temp for a 993?

George, it looks a little high unless you have been driving in some serious stop and go. Typical running temp for me is usually around 8 o'clock. I expect it to go ever lower with the Cargraphics oil cooler!

I've never seen mine at that point at any track dE event...

BUT I was stuck in the worst traffic on my way home from the track (2 hours meant 6 feet of movement it seemed) and it was at that point then... outside temp of 84 degrees at the time....

If I saw that at the track, I'd look into an aux oil cooler!

George,

It's too high unless you just got off the track.

My normal running temps are just below the 8 o'clock tick on the measurement gauge. The temp you are seeing is what I have when I get done with a high temperature track session or if I had been sitting in traffic on a very hot day (90F).

Since I did the oil cooler fan override switch, when I sit in traffice on a really hot day and have the fan switched to run on High, the temps don't budge from below the 8 o'clock location. The temps actually run lower even at highway speeds with the fan on. Here (http://p-car.com/diy/fanswitch/) are the instructions on how to do the override (it is very easy) and I highly recommend it as the engine heat is the achilles heal of our engines.

I'll know how this override affects track oil temps in a couple weeks and will post.

My gauge will tick above the 8 o'clock (194 degrees) mark if I'm in stop and go traffic with the a/c on...once on the open road engine temps will cool.

Turning the a/c off in traffic will also help to lower oil temps somewhat.

I hope that your car was not at idle. 1500 r.p.m's is way too high of an idle. That might be something to look at. Is your car moving? I hope not, it looks like you have both hands on your camera! What do you mean by "at running temp."?

Georges,

To answer your question maybe it would be helpful to know.
ambient temp.
relative humidity
vehicle speed
if you are stopped how long have you been stopped

It appears you may not have be going very fast or moving at all as your rpms are quite low; although you do have good oil pressure. Also with your oil level gauge indicating what it does that would tend to indicate you are stopped.

George,

Mine was going up that high too and I discovered that I blew the fuse that controls the cooler fan. I also set my fan up to run all the time so my temp stays pretty low. It's easy to change in back in the winter months.

Thanks for the input guys..

Actually I have been noticing this rise in temp for the couple of weeks now.(summer has arrived).. I would not want to override my switch but would rather change the gauge that gives the signal for the fan to start ..decrease its temp(Is this available?)
Then again I still have the engine cover installed.. would removing it help?
This temp does not show when driving on the highway only when on a stop and go situation.
Is the additional oil cooler available as a genuine Porsche part?I am not into aftermarket parts.

Cheers

That's a shade higher than mine was on a 3K ft climb out of Death Valley at 104ºF ambient, just before I turned off the A/C.

I would take the engine cover off asap and you can get an OEM Turbo S auxilary oil cooler from Gert at Carnewal.

Humm ..lets seee... Do you mean the oil cooler fan?the fan in the right front wing of the car?or is there any other fan.

I believe there is only one fan and it is where I have described it!
How would you test this fan?Shall I keep the car idling until the fan goes on?

Remove the right headlight - and pull the connector to the oil temp switch. When you turn your car on - it should be running on high speed (it may take a second or two to come on - or - it does on mine )
