By "this" ...I mean the blower resistor. Then again the wing is getting pretty hot which confirms circulation of oil.

Hey Georges,

Another thing I'd do in Lebanon - I did in Florida - was to tweak a spare relay to bypass low speed and activate hi-speed all the time instead of low and hi... I plug it in during the hot summer months. There are threads with the mod online !

A hot right front fender will confirm thermostat is working. I have yet to hear the gurgle.

I wish I understood all of this jumpering stuff, that would make the attempt easier.

Max,

I like your advice on how to test that resistor! Classic!

My 993 is in India and it often gets up to that temperature before the fan kicks in. Our summer temperature gets up to about 110 deg F. I have been told that I need to add the inlet trumpet for the airbox from the turbo which helps draw fresh air instead of hot engine compartment air.

I actually have added the trumpet to my 993,but this will not be possible unless you have a fixed wing. If you have the original wing (mechanical) this trumpet will not fit.

Then again having this trumpet or not will not affect the running temperature. My problem was busted ballast resistors and I am awaiting to change them!

That look high, mine didn't get quite that high running Road Atlanta last week in 96 degree temps.

I would get rid of the engine plate. It really makes a big difference and it has no use.

Just a side note about the Cargraphic oil cooler. When you have one installed with the AC installed and you have the AC on in the car, the condesor fan actually cools that oil cooler on the drivers side. This is why there is some degraded affects on the AC. Though your engine temps will be great and the AC is not that badly affected.

I love my additional cooler, the car has never seen anything above 8:30 even in stop and go traffic (or low 90's track events) and when cruising on the public roads it is always below 8 (7:30). At that temperature (7:30) the oil level guage rarely reads because the oil is not hot enough, oh well...you can't have everything!

kary

i do not beleive that you should not let the car reach full running temperature. in my opinion the car neeeds to reach the 9 oclock in order to give max engine output in hp.

i once read that unless the car reaches running temperatures it will consume petrol much more than it should.

sorry for not using uppercase in my reply but my keyboard is busted.

Ballast resistors for both the A/C and oil fan have been changed and the car's temp is not rising to the past readings.

This is definitely because of the new resistors. AC is fine now as it runs on slow speed as I put it on (unlike pre-resistor change) and oil fan is starting early on slow speed.

total cost is 90 USD for both resistors + 4-5 hours of my time.
Once again thanks Rennlist.....

Thanks, Georges, for follow-up. Inspired by this thread of yours I went and checked my oil fan and a/c resistors and they are both gone too.
Replacements are on their way.

Georges, I have never heard of poor gas mileage nor the HP issue because of oil temperatures being too low. Have you ever driven your 993 in the winter where temperatures are below zero? The car does not get that hot in those conditions. Do you have something to substantiate this claim?

I know plenty of 993 RSR's which have far more efficient air flow over two oil coolers (splitter design) than our cars have and they run very cool in race conditions. They do not suffer any mileage degradation nor horsepower loss. In fact as your air temperature and engine temperature go up you loose horsepower because of the ignition of the fuel. So I would be very interested in seeing some information or explanation of your claim.
