Post RS sway bar install...

Just a reminder that the RS sway bars have another link arm:
The stock 993 sway bar link arm:

The RS sway bar link arm (is longer too):

I have a question that’s not related to the drop links, but this picture shows it clearly. What is the plastic cover on the control arm for? Aerodymanics?

The plastic cover is there to attach the tool to measure th kinematic toe.

Hmmm… Mine got a big crack in it from a rock or other debris. It was so loose I doubt it could have provided an accurate kinematic toe setting. I removed it, as it was about to fall off anyway. It doesn’t seem to be very good at either protection or alignment settings.

GJ,
Maybe we used a different tool. but the way my mechanic measured the kinematic toe was with a buble gauge that rests on the caliper.
Do you have a picture of the tool you are referring to?
Thanks
Greg

AFAIK, the plastic cover is just a dust guard.

Greg,

There are two kinematic toe setting tools, one for "std" cars and one for RS. The one for the RS goes on the rear calliper fixing bolts (would probably work for turbos and turbo-brake-equipped cars too, I guess), the one for std cars goes on the wishbone arm. Unfortunately, if your car is lowered (from a proper ride height, not US-style Paris-Dakar ride heights ) the std gauge won't go on the wishbone arm (except perhaps if you disconnect the anti-roll bar) hence the special gauge for the RS - but if you don't have RS-style rear callipers that gauge cannot be used either.

John,
Thanks for the explaination. but why won't the RS style gauge work on a car without the Big reds?

Greg, the calliper fixing bolts (and pitch?) are not quite the same between big reds and std so the gauge doesn't go on properly.

So, how does a person with a standard car with PSS-9's dropped to RS spec, set the kinematic toe-in?

That's how my car is set up at the moment but it's going for a new alignment next week and I'm afraid they'll cheat on the kinematics.

Hi Matt,

If I recall correctly it is only the anti-roll bars that prevent the gauge being used, so disconnecting the bar should allow the gauge to go in the correct position.
