There's a 96 Cab for auction on BaT that I'm interested in here. The hardback on the driver's side shows the leather separating from the backshell. Passenger side is starting to do the same thing but not quite as bad. The pic below is from the previous BaT auction of the same car. (There's no picture of this on the current auction). When asked about it, the seller responded: "I believe the seats can be easily adjusted, they are in the same condition as when I bought the car". Not so sure about that. If they were that easy to "adjust", you'd think either the current owner or previous one would have done so. Anyone seen anything like this and know what the problem/fix is?
Thanks
That happens all of the time. Both of my sets did that. If I recall correctly, porsche sells little metal clips to help keep the plastic ones in place.
That leather section on my 97's hardback is really, really stiff. I tried to separate it to get an idea how hard it might be to put back together but it just wouldn't budge. Just odd that 2 previous owners wouldn't take 5 minutes and tuck it back in.
If it is loose, it keeps popping back off. That kept happening to my 97 C2S. That’s why I had those little metal clips. I’ll see if I can find a pic of my tan HB’s.
Hi Jay,
I would not worry about it too much.
A very common situation is where the rubber trim on the leather does not provide enough friction to hold the leather in the channel around the rim of the hardback. It probably has to due to the rubber drying out and the leather shrinking over the years or leather treatment migrating to the edge acting as a lubricant. There are two fixes. One is to add a few metal clips to augment the rubber edge and its holding power. The other is to add a bead similar to the bead used on window screen. One forces the bead along the rubber edge into the channel using a plastic chisel.

Hi Jay,
I made a quick search of clips to hold the leather edge in place on the hardback seats. Below is what I found. I do not recall if the clips on my seats are of this design.
Maybe others here can identify this clip as the correct one. I cannot find the part number for this clip to check it in the seat catalog,
