!@#$#%^%^$#@! Alarm
Ok, I checked the archives, but not yet the owners manual (have to dig it up) but twice in the last weeks I have had a problem with my alarm. The first time, I was running an errand, I did not lock the car, but the immobilizer turned on. When I went to start the car, I put the key in and pushed my key fob button. The red light flashed (on the fob), but nothing happened. Tried for about 10 minutes, nothing, banged the fob a few times, nothing, then... it worked!
5 days later, out on the town, lock the car with the key fob. 2 hours later, go back to the car, and the alarm won't disengage. The red light seems bright (on the fob). Pushed and pushed and pushed, nothing. Finally stuck my key in the door, alarm goes off. after it resets, it works again??? It worked the rest of the night.
I know I need to re-read the manual, but is this just a dying battery? I plan on changing it but am looking for other thoughts.
I really hate sitting in front of my car looking puzzled as I cannot even get into/start it, takes away the mystique.

I had a similar problem after I switched from the switchblade to the lighted key with small remote.
I tried everything, new battery in both the car and key fob, pulled the seats to check the wires for faults ect. The problem, the damm new remote housing. I switched back to the switch blade key/remote and have not had a problem since. I had major problems to the extent that for a couple of weeks I had to leave the key in the ignition to keep the drive block from re setting itself. You may have a flawed remote housing. By the way, my new remote worked fine for several months before the failure... I know this fix seems hard to believe but I was just short of ordering a new drive block alarm unit to cure this problem. If you have the old style switch blade remote then you may have another problem.

I have been absolutely paranoid about this as I dropped my remote (switchblade) and it stopped working. Fortunately, I was home and had another. My concern was this, remote breaks in some desolate part of the country where they can't spell Porsche let alone pronounce it, but they know its "furrin". Then what...car no startie...stranded
There are two solutions that I can think of: 1)hide an extra remote in your car somewhere without the key to deactivate the alarm 2)Get the alarm code from your dealer and keep a copy of it in your wallet. Look in your manual, as there is a startup sequence with this code if your remote should fail. I went with #2, as I was not comfortable hiding another remote and purchasing a spare remote was very expensive for alleviating my paranoia.
