hidden budget
stinky,
In the last year (which happens to be just over 7K miles on my 1995 C2):
$600....1 Oil Change/Yearly service - got ripped off
$600...Broken pedal assembly, fixed at dealer
$1000...New rims (w/tires)
$50.....New airbox cover
$400....Power steering pump seal
$400....Clutch master & slave
That looks like a lot, but I expect this year to have far fewer operating expenses.
cheers,
sean

That doesn't apply to Kim! He's the man of ten Bic Mac's!

I seriously doubt that!

I remember that from college, in between parties and other fun stuff.
I agree the principal exists but surely there must be an exemption for Porsche cars!
In my case having two does not dimish anything except money in my wallet, the two cars have very different purposes.
Good luck with your Ph D.

I totally agree!
My wife doesn't understand why I still need to keep my 911 because I have 993, she keeps asking where do I neew two for?! DOH!
For sure having two Porsches doesn't diminsh anything (except that money), and that tiny Fiat cabriolet doesn't do that either!

There's a time when "hidden" is not going to work for you and you have to come out and tell the "half" truth...
This happened to me when I came upon a deal that I could not let go... An Aero Kit for $1500 from dealer. I have to have a plan and some compromises for this...
First, couple of nights in the cooler(spare bedroom). Then, a week of house chores plus dinning out. Finally, a long weekend planned for Labor day.
You know what...I think I got off easy....

As far as I can tell, the beauty of the hidden budget is more for taking the edge off of the final bill. Something that costs $1500, really costs "$500." This way I don't have to worry about scheduling time. This is a half truth or mabye even a 1/3 truth.

Right before a big splurge on your car you have to buy a nice piece of jewerly. It works wonders, and you don't have to sleep in the dog house.

My old 911 still sits in my garage in Finland even though I had an 'agreement' with my wife that I'll sell it this summer.
The secret:
Few days at Monaco (without kids) worked like a charm!
But that '1/3-truth programm' is really good, I've used that succesfully for years!

Greg,
You have that right, jewelry works wonders. However I have no hidden budget. I just know that whatever I spend on the car is going to cost me double. Parts for the Porsche, shoes and jewelry for the wife. It makes for a great home life. <img src="graemlins/bigok.gif" border="0" alt="[thumbsup]" />
There is alway the other excuse I am going to sell the old parts on E-Bay. By the way how are the rims & tires Sean?
