From the front of my car, You almost cannot see the v1. I have my rear 3 windows in limo style tint. Very little "backround" light I guess

Skip, I see who you are now. Pictures are coming your way when I get home this evening. My V1 can come out, but I leave it in 24/7. From outside the car, it is not noticable under most conditions. Bill Z

FWIW, I'm keeping the V-1 based in part on your posts and some recent experience. I tried it out in our SUV we just took on a (5.5 hour drive each way) ski trip. While there were times there was so much beeping an arrows, I wanted to pull over and headd for cover, most of the time the V-1 was right on and gave me time to slow before seeing the "bogey" as they call it in the V-1 book. I think we'll all benefit from the install tips and pics.

For those of you who like to minimise expense, I know for sure that if you buy a "returned" unit, it is either $20 or $40 less than brand new. Same warranty.

Saw this post at the top...I just mounted mine using double-sided tape and 1500 grit sandpaper using Dan's instructions...worked like a charm! Great non-permanent solution.

How do you guys mount the V1 so high and have it not interfere with the sun visor operation? If I put mine up high like that, I can't put either one down!

Inquiring minds want to know!!!

EDIT: Okay perhaps there are 2 part numbers for the visors, and I have the larger ones.

The unit is mounted high, but also far forward. That allows my visor to extend straight down. Bill Z

A little bit late to the thread since I just started reading this board, but I believe the mirror display/concealed V1 on the BMW you were talking about was done by <a href="http://www.miautodesign.com/home.htm" target="_blank">Mobile Innovations</a> in Lodi, NJ. The following picture is from a BMW X5, but they do it for several cars. I believe it's sanctioned by Valentine Research. The V1 unit is concealed in the dropdown box in the console. I believe they charge about $2500 for this install.

Dan - Thanks. Do you know if the Ultrasmith install puts the V1 guts into the mirror, or just the remote display and the V1 is concealed elsewhere?

AFAIK the mirror displays are just a remote display. The V1 goes elswhere. It's guts couldn't possibly fit into an interior rear view mirror.

Personally, if I wanted a built-in display, Robin's tach mount is far more appealing.

I notice that some rearview mirrors on late model cars are quite thick and chunky, esp the one that have the built in compass and outside temperture. I thought perhaps that those might be thick enough to house the V1 guts.
