Default Rocker Panel Reinstall

What is the trick to getting your rocker panels to clip in those white studs/connectors at the ends (shown below)? https://www.pelicanparts.com/More_In...M&bc=c&SVSVSI=

I had to take one of my side skirts off and now upon reinstalling the ends won't seem to clip in. Is there any workaround? It looks like the plastic clip on the rocker itself is getting weak and about to snap.

I have had the best luck with those clips by snapping them into the rocker and then bolting them on to the car. Be gentile as the rocket panel side are small tabs that can break.

Ah, I see. I fear it may be too late for that. One of my plastic tabs is definitely torn. I wonder if JB weld will be strong enough to hold it on and allow it to clip. I'll remove everything and remove those white studs to redo them the way you mentioned.

In that case, pull the rocker back off and JB weld or plastic epoxy the mount to the remaining plastic. Scuff it up a bit first with some sandpaper. It'll hold.

This may sound like a dumb question but how do you get the nut back on once the rocker panel is installed? It does not seem like I can access the nut to remove that white clip from the body unless the entire rocker panel is off.

Access panel in wheel well. How did you get it off? Oh... that may explain the broken clip.

The rocker panel itself just pushes into the white clip, right? So I pulled it out, leaving the white clip behind. Now that you are recommending taking off the white clip (removing the nut from the stud behind it) and then snapping it on the rocker panel while it is off the car, I am wondering how I will put the nut back on the backside of the white clip's stud.

Access panel.. do you mean the part of the fender liner which overlaps the rocker?

Correct. It'll be in the corner nearest the rocker on either side. Remove that and you can access the nut to remove.

When you say to remove, I just want to double check.. there is nothing to actually remove right? I am seeing a few screws to remove which attach part of the wheel liner to the rocker panel. Then you have to sort of finagle the wheel liner and bend it out of the way, right?

Leave the wheel liner alone. Remove 1 screw and remove this door. Nut is right behind it. Nothing else is required.

no, the white clip stays with the rocker panel.
the wheel well liner access panel exists to remove the plastic nut holding the white clip to the body.
there are photos on this forum of the white clip being glued to the rocker panel as a fix.
search for those.

For some dumb reason I thought that the panel clips into that white clip. Guess I sort of messed up my rocker panel. As said before, I will JB weld them to the white clip.

Yea, I knew about the front access panel. But there is no rear access panel. At least on my early 95. But I could still get to it only because I already had the rocker panel off. It might be a little harder once I glue the white clip to the rocker panel and needs to screw in the nut from behind.

Pictures below:
(by the way is the front nut supposed to hold a little metal bracket in addition to the white clip)?

Also, what is this U clamp that the parts diagram (#16) says that we are supposed to have 4 of on each side? I do not see that at all on my panel or the studs where those 4 nuts go.

on a wide body car the holes along the outside edge of the body for locating the rocker panel plastic tabs are large, or maybe too large.
my guess is the catalog picture is incorrect, the part number is for a spring clip that fits into the too large wide body holes
helping to secure the rocker panel to the body.
if you have a wide body you should be able to see the clips in place.
they are not needed in every hole, maybe 4 or 3 or something.

the rear wheel well liner is very flexible, I think two plastic t-nuts and two screws and it bends out to access the white plastic tab mounting nut.

I've never seen the metal tab before but looks like it grew up in there.
hopefully somebody will recognize it.

you haven't messed up the rocker panel, the plastic tab/white clip strategy is weak and fails with time.
here's the bobbyt thread where he shows how to glue them better than before with links and description.
