I am going out to purchase a Nakamichi CD 400 this weekend. I wanted to know if you require a special adaptor to plug it into the factor wire harness for the factory CD player in a 98 993?
Any one installed this unit themselves?
Looking forward to some better sound!

While I did not make the DIY install, I did have to buy the adapter plug as I recall. I think you will really like the unit. Blends nice with dash, sounds good for the price, and recognized by others if (hopefully not me) you ever sell your p-car. I saved my stock deck anyway just for GP. The subs in the back foot wells kill almost all the rear foot space by the way. Not sure I would do it again IMHO. Just my 2 cents.
Good Luck,
Good Luck,

I too just had a Nak CD-400 installed, and it's a HUGE improvement over the stock CR-1 unit. I'm not a wiring expert, but the tech did mention to me that Porsche's usually used VW parts, but that it was different for my 993.
The shop is Sound Automotive in Trenton, NJ. You could call them at (609) 587-5555 and ask for Rob. He supervised the install, and may have a fresh memory of what parts were needed to complete the install. Good luck, you will not regret the upgrade.

Shawn,
I am ready to pull the trigger on a NAK cd-400. I was wondering if you or anyone else completed a DIY install. The "pimp my ride" shop near my house has never installed one so if it is not too complicated I may attempt it myself. I am aware of the problems with the multidisk units but the single disk cd-400 seems to be ok. I like the non bling-bling look it has. Thanks in advance for any help.

I had my CD400 installed Saturday, I was planning to go the DIY route and I just happened to stop by my local "Car Toys" . For $70 and 20 min. I decided to let a pro it. Sounds very...very nice and matches the dash. OOPs almost forgot......you'll also need an antena plug adapter. Good Luck!!!
BTW My Becker CD 210 Cd player is on ebay, 50% off shipping for "Rennlist" members.

Hey Randy,
Thanks for the bid on the Becker, IMHO speakers are the first and best step in the search for better sound......after that it depends. The reason I went to the Nak CD-400 the 24-bit D/A converter has a much cleaner sound and about twice as much power, plus you can find 'em for about $310. For speakers I'm using MB Quart component separates (bought on eBay) sames size as the factory front and back....I did put crossovers in the front door pockets via Rod Birchs instructions, he's a "Rennlist" sponsor. I'm not running an amp now and I'm planning on doing that soon, but the darn thing sounds very good to me.
The Becker sounded fine and didn't have an external amp, I just thought I wanted something that could sort out the more complicated tones in my music.
BTW......I am no authority on this, Just a guy who occasionally turns on the radio

PC2,
That is nice. It matches coth the dash light color and the frame. If you don't mind me asking, how much is the Nak-400?
Here are some review on the unit:

Steve,
What made you choose MB Quart speakers. I am no audiophile so I have never heard of them. I was thinking about focals but they are so expensive. What model #s are your speakers?

The Focals are fairly cheap on Ebay ... the 6.5 Polyglass set (which fits nicely in the factory setup) fetches about $200 compared to $400 retail. Of course, no warranty, but it's new in the box ... yada yada yada. And I think the good MB Quarts are even pricier than the Focals.

Randy-
The model name is "Discus Series"........the reason I bought MB Quarts, you guys are going to beat me up over this
, Focals are French. Some folks think Quarts sound a little "bright" (tinny) , I just turn up the bass Db a tad.
Currently on eBay MB QUART DSD-213 5.25" COMPONENT SET 5 1/4" DSD213 NEW $99.00 "Buy It Now"
