Default Airbag clockspring problem

95 993 tiptonic. The car calls for an airbag clockspring # 993 652 213 00 which has been superceeded to 996 652 213 00. The connector wire is too short and the connectors themselves are different. Has anyone had any experiance with this problem. Is there some kind of adapter harness? Thanks in advance

Porsche often will supersede a replacement part with a new (sometimes) improved part, with a different part number. And, unless you can find some old stock on a dealer's shelf, you are stuck ordering the newer version.
It may be a different part for a variety of reasons, including improved quality, 3rd party manufacturer no longer can supply, etc. etc.
I checked the PET against the price list and the clock-spring for both the manual and 6spd 993 wheels have been superseded by a 996 part number.

The '95 airbag and the airbag mounting bucket is different than other years for the 993. However, I don't recall ever hearing about issues using 96 to 98 airbags and steering wheels.

What kind of problems are you having?

The wiring harness on the 996 is much too short to work on the 993. I have spoken with the dealer, and they can not find any tech bullitens or anything regarding the problem. I will be taking the old and new parts to the dealer today, and we will try to figure this out. Thanks for the replys, and Max, thanks again for the research. I'll let you know what I find out.

The official word from Porsche is "The harness in the chassis is long enough if you pull on it." Gee thanks guys!
