Strut Braces
Interested in getting one, but a bit confused by all the choices...Help!
Do all strut braces pretty much accomplish the same thing? Why the WIDE disparity in prices? Are all of them "exposed" in the trunk area or are there any that hide unobtrusively underneath the carpet. Is there a significant improvement that can be felt? Any feedback would be great. Thanks!

I just bought a Porsche strut brace from Gert Carnewal in Belgium

Excellent quality piece of kit, light aluminium, at a good price. Fits neatly underneath carpet and so not obtrusive.

Edward,
I purchased the factory unit from Suncoast Porsche (Phil Anderson, panderson@automaxplus.com) for about $250. Like Gert's unit, it is made of aluminum. It does hide under the carpet, and my seat-of-the-pants evaluation suggests that the front end is more precise and "tight".
The general board consensus is that the braces are helpful on the 993s, but not on the 996s. On the 996s, the towers are located much closer to the firewall, and this provides the needed support.
Some owners have reported that the braces reduce the infamous 993 windshield squeak. Unfortunately, my squeak is still present, alhtough it's rather mild and intermittent.
Sorry I don't have a pic.
