Question Ignition Leads

Hi All - looking for opinions on replacement ignition leads for a 993 Carrera. Does one need to stick with OEM leads, which are insanely expensive, or would a branded alternative suffice? Beru offer an aftermarket kit which I am considering. AFAIK Beru also manufacture the OEM leads... Thanks in advance!

Ring the dealer before buying on the aftermarket route. I think I spend about £300 on Beru but it took my trained spanner man a few hours to fit them so just be aware that they take a while to fit.

Hi Bushbaby,
Porsche does not make their ignition wires Bosch does and if purchased in a Bosch box will save you money. I have used Bosch and Beru wires and caps interchangeably in my daily driver's car. The wire terminations and cap pins between the brands differ slightly but are interchangeable or can be mixed without issue. If you are not getting a misfire OBD code and you do not have running issues, say in wet weather, with the wires attributable as the root cause there is no need to replace them. I replaced mine at 80K miles because I was having other work done involving removing the engine anyway. At 80K miles the wires looked good and were not exhibiting any functional issues.

Have a look at the wires in the dark with the engine running. You’ll easily see if there’s any arcing or flashover anywhere.

Thanks everyone - will check on the Beru option. I'm handy with spanners so that part is all good 😀
