Just wanted to say that the Wheels America in Houston sucks.
I requested powdercoating and they tried to get away with just painting the wheels. Also they claimed that my 3 piece wheels had been taken apart to paint the centers when you could clearly see masking tape lines around the edges indicating the centers were painted attached to the rim halves. Whats even better is that the color didn't match even after taking the wheels back 4 times.

I don't even want to get started with what I've seen them do to other wheels that I've seen recently.

Sorry to hear about your experince with "Wheels America" although my experince was good, I do realize that my wheels were very simple and being a franchise they are not all created equal.

I have a call into Al Reed at Al Reed Polishing in Anaheim, CA +1 (714) 632-3907. I really like the powder coated look...not the paint. I feel the powder coat will be more durable in the long run. I'll post the feedback from Al on the cost to do a set of Cup Wheels, black centers with shiny outer edge.

Al does incredible work...I have never any complaints about Specialty Polishing, and I have known Al and Diane since 1989. I have had him do several sets of wheels for me over the years. He even converted a crack fuch's 8" wheel into a clock for me.

I have recommended Al to many people...no negative feed back to date..you will be pleased with his work.

No commercial endorsement here...just passing on my experience.

Martin, I was one of those poeple that took your advive. As I rememeber, Al charged around $50+ per wheel for powder coated/polished lip.

Steve, your wheels look great! I just got my '02 TT wheels back from my body shop where they painted the centers a satin black and the lips the factory rim color. They then clear-coated the whole wheel. They look fantastic on my Polar Silver coupe. I'll post a pic when I can.

Truly spectacular, I was looking to see if anyone sold any of the old school style fuchs wheels for the 993 but instead see this and gotta say definately looks like the way to go.

Dont' suppose anyone done this on a black porsche? Or care to photoshop one, would love to see how it'd look on black

love to know what 'panned-out' on the al reed route..... my hollow spokes are due for a good black powder-coating!!!

also, noticed wheels ame. upped their $109. price to $125.... hummmmm

Be careful with Wheels America. A tire shop damaged my wheel finish and sent them the Wheels America. The quality of work was terrible. The outside of the wheels were OK, but the insides were finished very poorly. They had a very rough finish, like they had never cleaned them before refinishing. They also did the work with the wheels on, rather than take them off to do a proper job. Part of the reason for the "low" cost.

Although not a 993, I recently had a similar treatment applied to a set of my track wheels. A local shop called Ye Olde Wheel Shop(they advertise in Autoweek) did the work. Cost was $95 per($50 paint, $45 polish) Considered powdercoating for durability reasons, but I wanted a satin black look(not gloss) so I was stuck with paint. Lips are machine finished(high polish same cost) with a clearcoat. Overall, I'm pleased with the work. YOWS is an extremely busy place, so the whole process took almost 6 wks. They specialize in wheel repair too. The curb rash on my front wheels lips was cleaned up at no additional cost.

I think the black wheel look works on my dark(blue) car.
