I have the same Snapon and find that 2 - 4 foot prybars help lateral movemement. Once it's in place you don't generally need to move it again. I placed aluminum plate uder the rollers and fixed end to distribute the load better.

I have owned Porsches for a long time and can tell you the best thing I ever bought for the car or the garage was this lift. Change the oil, no problem. Clean the chassis, suspension and wheel wells, no problem. R&R the brakes, no problem. Wax the car standing up, great! Also, no problem to access everything I need to front and rear, .
Since I can’t take advantage of a 2 post lift (ceiling height) this is perfect for me.
Not to rub it in, but a brand new snap-on lift just sold on ebay yesterday for $1500 (about $4k new).

Ken...I drive the car on the ramps to get enough clearence to fit a hockey puck in the front and a block of wood and a puck in the rear. This levels the car on the lift and gives a little extra room in the back.

Garage looking cleaner than the master bedroom - cool!
"Oily/dirty" side of Porsche cleaner than the kitchen - that's just not right
btw, judging from this thread I think I see a third slippery slope.
1) the all important car improvements/stuff
2) the cool tools, wax, etc. for the car and car stuff
3) converting the garage into a "Vega$" (or whatever that show was where the garage was part of the living room) with lifts, etc.
I've slipped on 1, stumbled on 2 and 3 looks attractive from here.

If you take a belt sander to the ends it makes the tires transition less traumatic. I have 2 sets of 2x12s, a normal height car only needs one set which I store side by side. A very low 911 will need both stacked. SnapOns come w/ 4 rubber blocks like the one pictured here.

If you have the ceiling height, for $2100, you can get a four post lift (Bend Pac) that puts the car up high enough to drive a second Porsche underneath, converting a single bay of your garage into a two car bay.
I am considering this just to get the 993 up out of the way for the snowblower in the winter, and there are plates that make the lift a full floor platform for storing the snowblower, etc. up out of the way in the summer. (This is the excuse I tell my wife why we need the lift (as opposed to a tool shed). Once I get it (if), the second sports car thing will be eased into conversations and the suggestion of a tool shed for the back yard for the snow blower.

Rich, Ken,
Have you seen the Eagle lifts on Ebay for $1000? How do they compare to Snap-On? The lift height seems to be a foot less than the Snap-On. I don't know if this is critical or not.
TIA,
Dave

Rich - that's got to be the most beautiful underside of any car I've ever seen. It's far better than when it left the factory. However, you've got to get rid of that engine tray. It serves no useful purpose other trapping extra heat down there.

When the lift is not in use, does your car clear the lift as you drive into your garage to park?
***note ***just in case a 2x is really 1.5" thick

Any updates on the Eagle Lift...I would love the Snap On Tools version, but availability and cost make the Eagle lift an attractive option.
I have also looked at this option for a full height lift :
http://www.kw-lifts.com/index.shtml
Also reasonably priced.
Guys any comments...
