Auxiliary blower temp sensor question...
My last post was almost 6 years ago when my beloved was damaged by a guard rail. Wound up taking the car to a terrific body guy and after much time and insurance hassles the car was returned in beautiful shape. Will post pics in a different thread.
So, noticing my aux. air blower coming on (sometimes, obviously depending on temp in engine compartment) after 5-10 mins after ignition turned off. Will blow for a few seconds and stop. Then repeat a few times, then off for good. Prior to this, at similar temperature, the blower would come on a few seconds after the ignition was turned off and stay on for a good 5-15 minutes.. I've searched and read most of what has been written about the aux blower here and on a few other sites, also looked through my copy of Streather and I haven't found an answer to my question at the bottom of this post. I've ascertained that the blower motor is working well at both speeds (as tested with CCU heater control). Also removed the resistor which looks clean and all contact points good.
I should mention that the blower works with ignition on.
So I pulled the temp sensor and tested with multimeter and hair dryer.....My results differ somewhat from what ToreB gave as the parameters.
ToreB 77F 9-11 K ohms. Me 7.35Kohms
ToreB 122F 3.1-4KOhm Me (hard to be accurate here) about 1500 ohms
ToreB goes on to say that the blower will turn on first stage with ignition off if temp in engine compartment reaches 167F. What he does not say is what resistance this would be. I ask because the resistance on my sensor goes as low as 930 ohms with constant application of heat, but no lower,
Should I be seeing less than 930 ohms for my blower to stay on (at 167F) with ignition off?
Just want to know if my numbers tell me I need a new sensor. And how low the resistance should be at 167F.
As always, thanks
