Would a '98 Targa have the same widebody as a '98 C2?
I think I read on this board that all '98 models (S and non-S) had the same widebody as the '96 and '97 S models. Is that correct?

there were no narrowbody coupes in '98.
'97 was supposed to be the last year for the 993.
Then PAG said they were delaying the 996 due to pre-production problems.
But it's been reported here that they also had 2500 Turbo bodies left over after the '97 run.
I wasn't aware that there were Targas in '98. Like Phil, I gotta look at the book when I get home too.

Although I'm looking at C4S' I came across a '98 targa with 42K miles. Price would be low $40's. I'm not really too tempted but it is an intersting alternative. Has anyone had experince with those models? Supposedly the problems were ironed out by '98.

If I had found a silver with black interior 98 Targa in the low 40's, I would have scooped that up faster than you can say "sweet ride with the open sky above". Leaks, shmeaks. Rattles, shmattles. I don't care what negatives people say about the 993 Targa, I searched for a silver with black interior 97/98 one for months before I gave up and started looking for a C4S. Many had the grey interior which I don't like as much. Black NEVER looks dirty! Grey can get trashed fast like the beige floor mats can. I LOVE the look of the 993 targa, that incredible roof, the openness without the fear of vandalism you get in the convertible. Just everything about it I love. I thought it was NOT a wide body, and that wide bodies only came on "S" cars. I thought the targa and convertibles were all narrow bodies, though that narrow body certainly isn't thin on the 993!
What color 98 did you find? Drive it and see if you like the openness. My one friend knows a lady that has one and has said she doesn't like the car, that it leaks, and that it lets TOO much sun in making it glary and hard on her eyes. I can't even believe that, but I don't own one. He said the dealer's tried to fix the leak a few times to no avail. Don't know if his story is true or not. I wouldn't buy it long distance unless you spent an hour in it first.
Good luck,
Steve

The only 993 widebody cars were the 1996 - 1998 C4S, the 1997 - 1998 C2S and the 1996 - 1997 Turbo.
The 1995 - 1997 C2, the 1995 - 1998 Cabriolets and Targas were narrow body cars (the targas are built off of the cabriolet body).

Per the Porsche 911 Redbook, there were 739 turbos, 30 Carrera Cups and 21 GT2s made for the 1998 model year.....they do not carry N.A. vin numbers <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" />
