engine lid release
The engine lid release cable on my TT is not releasing properly so that I can't open the lid to the engine bay. Anyone had a similar problem and if so is there any other method of opening the lid without going to a dealer?

Can you describe more of what your problem is, with specifics?
There's a spring loaded catch mechanism that the cable hooks onto. When you pull the engine lid release tab, do you feel any resistance at all? The cable could have slipped out of the catch mechanism.
Perhaps you can try to pull the engine release tab and have another person try to lift the engine lid.
I've adjusted the height of my catch, so I've been poking around in that area. It's a pretty tight fit.

Cus,
Basically there are two adjustments to the engine decklid latch. One is where the cable is attached to latch where you can adjust for the slack of the cable by loosen the bolt and pull the slack off and tighten it. The 2nd method is by playing with the latch assembly itself, it is fixed in place with two 10 mm bolts you will have to loosen it and play with the adjustments.

The answer is maybe. Starting sometime either in late MY '96 or MY '97 there was a backup cable installed which goes from the lid release lever to the inside of the L (driver's) rear fender & is accessible by removing the fender liner. The cable ends in a loop. Pulling the loop opens the lock. This is similar to the backup cable release for the trunk which is located inside the L front fender for all MY 993s. I don't know your year or if the TT differs in this regard from NA cars.

Three Wheelin'
My car has a build date of 10/96 and it has the backup cable for the engine lid latch. However, I have never seen it in any other car. I have looked at several cars with build date AFTER mine and several with build dates before mine and none have had the backup cable. Sooo..anybody got an idea what's up with this backup cable, and when it was installed, etc. <img src="confused.gif" border="0">
