Hi Steve,
I just viewed the pics at the link you provided.
Wow, that is one seriously beautiful car!!
I've been following this thread, hoping that this car is "the one", and that it ultimately works out for you.
About a year ago, I hired an independent auto transport driver to deliver a Porsche from San Diego to Nashville for approx $1100. The move went impeccably. The guy is based in Indiana. He transports sports cars all the time in an enclosed 18-wheeler. Let me know if you'd like the contact info.
Best regards,
rick j. (nashville, tenn.)

To Eric in Chicago- I AM a Rennlist member, thus the member # at the bottom of each post. But thanks for reminding me that my piddly Rennlist dues were worth every penny, and I would have been shoplifting if I got all this great advice and didn't at least join up!
What am I going to do now? I live for the car ads everyday! I love searching the internet for that "perfect" car. I realized the perfect car is the one you buy - the higher mileage one you get for a song and turns out to be a great deal and a great car. Or the lower mileage garage queen that you cherish and only drive in perfect weather. It's all good.
Got the floor mats on order at Rockville Porsche here in town, my first gift to my new baby. Now to find a flight to Chicago and a hotel to stay at this Sat nite, as I meet Gino at my hotel on Sunday morn and will drive my honey home. I pray for no snow!

Way to go Stever!
Where are you going to be staying? Maybe you would like to join a couple of the local Rennlisters for a cold one. Jeff ((Jeff has sweet 74 Euro almost RS) and I are about 12 miles from O'hare, near downtown. send me a private e mail if you want to hook up. We have a great Porsche bar to take you to if you have time.

Thanks Eric,
I'll be getting into O'Hare at 554pm Sat the 11th and could definitely use a ride to a nice restaurant for a meal and company if you're available. This is a dream I've had since 1997 to buy a Silver C4S. I ended up getting a free flight from mileage I've had on American for years but never used! It cost $80 in service fees instead of their $400 one way fare. Sweet. Got a room at the Doubletree in Downer's Grove 10-15 miles from Luxury Motors for that night - $75 on the net. Life is good.
My # is 301 871 8617 or my cell # that night will be 301 412 3578. I look forward to meeting you and whomever else shows up on Sat the 11th at O'Hare. Could I get your #?
Always amazed by this web forum. I know it's just a car, but I feel like I'm about to see a long lost relative.

The car is paid for, so I guess it's mine even though it's not in my possession yet. I've taken the liberty to add it to my list of cars on the bottom. Always wanted to see a "C4S" in that spot - Yahooo! I wanted a 97, as I thought it would be cooler to get the "middle year" 993 C4S, but big deal, right? 97's were alot more expensive. For $45k, I get my dream car with all the expensive problem stuff upgraded right off the bat.
To Saichin and whomever else, Eric from Chicago is graciously picking me up at O'Hare at 615pm 1/11/03 Sat eve, at the American Baggage Terminal and whisking me off to the "Players Club" for a bite to eat and drinks (well, water for me - my drink of choice) It's some kind of Porsche lovers hang out, though it sounds more like a strip club I went to once in Myrtle Beach ).
Cheers,
Steve <img border="0" alt="[cheers]" title="" src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" /> <img border="0" alt="[cherrsagai]" title="" src="graemlins/drink.gif" />

Stever,
I was just looking at the pictures of your car -- it looks beautiful. I noticed one small thing that you should have the dealer fix before you take delivery (it's in the picture that shows the underside of the front bumper and the front pan). The car is missing two of the three rubber one-way valves that let water out of the trunk, but don't let water in. The picture shows the two holes in the front pan that should have these plugs in them, and you can see the plug in the third hole toward the rear portion of the pan (toward the left side of the picture). Without the plugs, water/salt etc. will get thrown up into the trunk floor. I would also suggest that you look in the spare wheel well to see whether it's dirty because of the missing plugs. If there is salt in there, it should be thoroughly cleaned out immediately.
Congratulations again, and enjoy the drive home.

Thanks Todd - I just called the dealer and they told me they'll buy these 2 $2 rubber valves and put them on the car! Saichin drove it and said it stalled a couple times because the ISV Valve needed to be cleaned. Thankfully I got this info and relayed it to the dealer and they are doing that too. It would have sucked to have the car stall out on a Sunday in the middle of nowhere on the ride home to DC from Chicago!
One gent just emailed me and said his family drove from here to Chicago years back and it took 16 hours?!? Mapquest said it takes under 12. I hope Mapquest is right. I may have gotten in over my head with this drive home.

Stever,
Sorry, but I just noticed something in another picture. It may just be because the picture is unclear and/or you may already know, but it looks like there is overspray on the windshield trim where it meets the cowl under the windshield. If so, then the car has had some paintwork. This is not necessarily a terrible thing and I know you're not expecting a flawless car, especially at the price you're paying, but I'd want to know the reason for it. Of course, it's possible that I'm seeing something in the picture that isn't actually there, but I thought it was worth mentioning before you go out there, just in case.
