Default Immobilizer Hell

Help!

A year ago I ordered a new key and remote from my local dealer as I only had one. The dealer looked up the Immobilzer code and tried to add the second key with no luck. I tried myself and could not get the second key added either, we decided that we must have the wrong code (new computer?) and gave up for the time being. As the key gods would have it, 3 weeks ago I lost my key and remote that worked... I have a new key and 2 new remotes, but same problem - the dealer looked up the immobilzer code again and it did not work. Help! Can I get the immobilzer code by providing the computer (DME?) seriel number to the dealer. do I need to get a new computer?

The instruction for programming the remotes are in the manual...and they work. By no means a straight forward task, but followed to the tee, they will work.

I am fairly sure that I am going through the process correctly to add the remote. The dealer had tried to add a remote a year ago and decided that the immobilizer is malfunctioning... Can PNA look up the immobilizer code from the serial numbers on the DME in case the DME has been replcaced?

If you have the wrong immobilizer code (whether per yours or the dealer's records),
you'll need to buy a new immobilizer and recode each remote to it. That's your only
solution.

If the immobilizer has failed or was damaged, e.g. water, then you'll also need a new
one.

I can't add anything at all to this discussion since my 95 is Immobilizer Free...

but WOW after reading the DIY article ... am I ever glad I have a standard key where my only problem is that the light in the key doesn't work but still allows the engine to start!!

Good luck....

If the immobilizer sequence is working as the procedure states (lights flashing when they are suppose to, ect...) and you are sure the dealer is giving you the correct key code, i agree with Lorenfb. You will need a new immobilizer.

I don't know if this makes any sense since I think the same database is used, but you might try a different dealer and see if they give you a different code.

I was in the same boat as you when I purchased my car. I talked to a couple of dealers. One of them gave me a code that didn't make any sense and claimed it was the only code listed for my VIN. Stopped at different dealer who gave the correct one.

Good luck!

Default Keys

The 2 keys and remotes from the Factory were $440, the Immobilizer would be $1800. I have the dealer trying to find the key code based on the serial number on the DME rather than the VIN in case someone else replaced the DME.

I have a hard time believing I have to pay $1800 to get my car working. Are there any aftermarket chips that contain the key code - I thought that I have read that on some DME upgrades (aftermarket) that you tell them the key code you want programmed when you send in the DME for the upgrade. Also, there is no way to override the immobilizer by using a jumper somewhere on the main circuit board? This sucks!

the immobilizer control unit itself should be around $400. it is the DME unit (the "main brain" ) that is priced at about $1800

This is very confusing!!
What is $1800, the unit underneath the passenger seat?

How is it no one has figured out how to overide that stupid box. I am having problems reprogramming my remotes.

yes.

the DME unit is the main engine computer. it must recieve a message from the immobilzer to let the engine start.

and to further confuse things, there is also an alarm control unit under the passenger seat. mine failed. it has a '928' parts prefix.
