Default 997 interior not all that bad..if

the 997's interior is not all that bad if"

-You order it in black
- You don't choose the silly clock as an option
- You leave the sat nav for the cayenne

(Ok, so that's a crummy PS job but I don't have the time required to do it better)

It looks like an SUV interior....maybe the Cayenne inspired it?

Looks too much like a G35 interior...

I need to see it in person before I decide if I like it or not....

-You can hear that oil gurgling sound in the passenger footwell as the car warms up [actually, forget that...Rennlist would be inundated with "Water Flowing Sounds Coming from Front of Car" posts...]

- You use a Porsche shiftknob as opposed to the VW Jetta /Golf / Beetle one.

You can't polish a turd. That interior does not belong in a Porsche.

CAA - Yup that was the FIRST thing that caught my eye... that shift **** is straight out of my 2002 VW GTI. I couldn't believe it...

Well, it's all relative. I thought - sacrilege - that the 993 interior was a shame when I got mine... Boooring, just like that of my 83 with improved door handles ! Besides, 1/2 the posts on the boad are about replacing the 993 shifter and steering wheel, both of which are also uninspired... At least they tried to change it on the 997 ;-)

I am not so against this one, considering they show the pimped out model (sat nav, chrome, silly clock) and a light color. I reserve final judgement until I see a black one with normal options... The setting wheel is a little too Cayenne-like but I kinda like it - the problem is the Cayenne got it first so now it looks like the queen 911 is getting second hand clothes...

One mans' turd.... ;-)

I'm not sure if that sport chrono option will be available in the U.S. The insurance companies will make sure it won't be. It'll probably just be a regular clock.

'Funny how this board seems to think alike. My list was the clock (egads, I hope it's an option) steering wheel (definitely belongs in a SUV) and the shiftknob. Overall, the 997 looks to be an evolution of the 993 rather than the 996, with the bifurcated IP. I can see the resemblance to my interior.

Tamiya Guy: I've been to Seattle (great city), and I'm pretty sure they drive on the same side of the road as we do in SoCal. Is your GTI in the UK or Japan?

I agree. Very similar. Ironically, the fakey metal trim in the G35 was widely criticized by automotive journalists.

Instead of all this money and effort poured into making the 997 a strange 'retro' cross breed between a 996 and a 993 (failed in my opinion), why don't they just dig up their old 993 plans and re-instate production?

Stevarino,

Yeah, too lazy to dig up a good photo of my car because I switched the shift **** the first day I got it. Grabbed this one from VWVortex.

See, nicer shifter... heavy metal not plastic.

Yeah! And since the aircooled motor doesn't pass current emissions and/or noise controls, I'd make due with a GT3 motor
