oh um 993=282hp

996=300-320hp

no lack of power, i've driven them back to back.

the shifter is not vague but very positive, even better with a short shifter...

on a 996, especially with a sport exhaust you actually here the engine...

the 993 sounds like blasting air!

Well my CATZ kit showed up today! Has anyone gotten the updated photos of the install using factory connectors completed/posted anywhere?

Would love to tackle this weekend...

Keith,

You went right past it - it's the link in the 9th post on this thread.

If you have any questions on this, email me. I suggest you print it out, then sit down at your work-bench with the DIY, the Catz kit and your car. It will be obvious what to do.

Take your time and you'll end up with an install that looks as good as the factory.

Instead of running the extra wiring through the groumet, why not just use the factory wiring that is already there. Seems like you could splice (gently) into the harness and grab the power from one side and use the now useless wires to run from the ballast to the lamp housing. Just received my Catz kit this week and will start the conversion this week end.

Marshall,

I assume you mean to cut into the harness near to where the ballast will be mounted in the trunk, before the harness goes thru the large rubber grommet into the fender well.

Having written this (admittedly unfinished) DIY, a couple of comments: 1) You swill be slicing into the (much) larger harness (it branches off into two or three runs AFTER it goes thru the fender well)and run the risk of damaging wires that you don't want to cut. 2) It will be harder to hide the sliced harness and butt or spade connectors in the trunk then it is to make the connections and hide them in the fender well 3) Doing all the connections in the fender well allows you to "re-instate" the original halogen set-up easily at a later date if you want to move the Catz kit to another vehicle. And it will be invisible to anyone that a mod was ever made.

Have fun with your install and make sure to post some photos if you decide to go this route.

Thanks for the return. Yes, that is exactly what I was thinking. My plans are to tie into the main harness with surgical precision and make the connections. Also thinking about rewrapping the harness to look as factory as possible. The igniter would be in the light housing as most others are doing. With this set-up, a removal would require restoring the two connections were the ballast was, and removing the igniter. I'll document the install and post if it comes out well. Thanks again.

Marshall,

One other thing to think about doing it that way. The Catz ballast input is 14 vdc from the car's bus, and the output is 380 vac. I don't know what the frequency of the output is. It may be 60 hz or 400 hz or ? Or the ballast may send a "chopped" wave form to the igniter. I would be concerned with having unknown, possibly high frequency, wiring, bundled in with and right next to other cabling in the harness.

My point is that you may end up with a problem with your car's electronics this way. My experience is that high frequency and or chopped wave forms are not friendly to the cabling that they may co-habitate with in a busway or conduit. This application is no different.

FWIW, the oem Litronics is wired in much the same way as your plan w/o any problems. Of course, it uses a different ballast than the Catz kit, so perhaps Mike's concerns are valid. Although I've enjoyed chopped salads, I know nothing about chopped wave forms.

Dan,

Thanks for the post. Do you by any chance have picture of the factory install that I can work off of. (BTW....I take it you are from St. Louis...was just there and stopped by Schmitt Motorcars on Lindburg to see if they had a factory install that I could take a peak at) Thanks for your help.

Dan,

Also, just looked at the picture of your car. Great look. Where did you get the clear turn signal lenses?

The clears in my sig pic are the US modified lenses from AJ-USA . Since replacing my bumper cover, I have Euro (no bumperettes) clears purchased online from Keith at Prestige Parts in the UK (www.prestigeparts.co.uk). The price incl shipping was 55GBP (now under $90). I paid w/PayPal in GBP to get a good exchange rate.

Mississippi to St. Louis to look at HID wiring - you must really love to drive
Sorry, I don't have any Litronics pics that show the wiring.

Marshall

When I installed my hid kit for Catz ,I ran the Ballets wire separate in Black pvc tubing. Keeping it away from the factory harness, only coming together at the headlight connector. This work great, have had no problem with noise. Also use electrical connections with 600 Voltage rating, seal with silicone.
