Default Considering G-Series

Hi All - question for the forum. I'm considering getting into a 1989 Carrera targa - white, 30k miles, 1 owner, clean and unmolested. Garage space does not permit adding to the existing cars and I would need to swap out between either a 1995 993 tip, a 997.1 Carrera 4S or a 997.1 turbo tip. The existing cars are all no-stories very well specced examples. Opinions sought please, have cross posted in the other forums. Thank so much!

If you are married or are planning to get married any time soon and your significant other doesn't drive a stick, keep the Tiptronic.

I'd take the position contrary to Andy's but for the same reason.

this is a cross-post so i'm writing what i wrote in the 911 forum for this thread:

"sell the 997.1 turbo tip to make room for the '89. (it's the least 911 of your 911s)"

That's a tough but fortunate situation you find yourself in. My first 911 was a 997 Turbo with a tiptronic transmission. For all the flack the transmission gets, I thought it was a great car. It's a grand touring rocket ship. With that being said, I never felt like a connected with it and wanted something more engaging. Sold it for a 997 GT3 and have never looked back. There aren't a ton of 997 4S and if that one is a manual I'd recommend keeping that and the 993.

Sounds like a pretty solid opinion in this bunch. Ditch the slushbox....

This is very well said. The 964 and 993 series are keepers. If you enjoy the 993, you will really love the 964. Great collection, enjoy!

ideally this.

for future reference:
manual > auto
air > water
coupe > open
na > fi
slick top > sunroof
older > newer

this is the way.

I'd dump the 997.1 and never give thought to IMS or bore score again.
