Hi Folks,

Im looking some basic information on replacing the front seats (Original standard to Original sports). I assume its one for one replace.

I did a quick search but couldnt find anything.

Is it just removing the bolts or is there more to it

Anyone have any info.

Each seat has four hex head bolts. You can use an allen key but a better, quicker way is to go get a hex head that fits right onto your socket wrench. Not only will removal be easier, but you'll put less wear on the soft walls of the hex bolt and reduce the chance that you'll strip them out. Also, if you don't already have them, get a U-joint adapter for your socket wrench since your space may be limited and a short extension.

Once you remove the bolts, disconnect the wiring harness under the seats and be prepared for some minor lifting! You'll be amazed at how heavy German lead can be.

Mark gave you good advise , it is one to one for sure and the harness is plug and play.

Besides the weight warning ( my God these are heavy) one small tip as well is to undo the rear screws first by moving the electric seat all the way forward to reach them and moving the seat all the way back for the fronts. It is much easier this way as there are 4 screws in the front and 2 in the rear. Then simply reverse the procedure, just make sure that before you put the new sports in they are all the way back as they have only manual fore and aft.

Like other's have said, use a good quality rachet set with an allen head.

And don't forget to raise the seat to the highest point before you start. Otherwise you won't be able to get access. I'd also recommend that you get some extra seat bolts. They strip really easy and it's always good to have extra on hand.

And be prepared for siezed bolts... I'd soften them up with some w-40 or anti-sieze several hours in advance. I just replaced my seats awhile back, and man was it a bietch. Ended up having to dremel a couple of the hex heads off (they strip REALLY easily).

Everyone has given you great advice. I third the advice about an allen socket and a rachet to remove those allen head bolts. Mine came loose with a loud "crack", but I had no damage to any of the bolt heads.

I just did this yesterday and I had no problems using Robins DIY about installing SRDs, section 1... removing stock seats.

I am not sure about all of your seat bolts, but mine have (had) 6 for each seat. Four in the rear for each seat and two up front for each seat. Don't all of yours have six bolts for each seat?

I had not prob whatsoever taking the driver seat out. Bolts came out easily.

Car never been in the rain and is dry as a popcorn fart.

If you do strip them, I'll admit i did and it was verrrry easy to do another way to get the bolts out is to cut a slot through them with a Dremel tool and 1" abrasive wheel then remove with large screwdriver.

Worked for me.

Anyone know offhand the specs on these bolts? I'm afraid I'm going to have to butcher the current ones to remove them and would like to have replacements handy.
