From 1995 - 1998 Porsche came out with the 993. The 993 had only one body, and it was a wide body car. This car body was used on the Carrera, C2,C4,C4S, and Turbo. The earlier models had narrow and wide bodies, but not the 993. If you look carefully through 95 - 98 you will see they all have the same body, just different bumpers, sideskits, and wings. This is why the 993 is the simplest car to make a turbo look. The integrity of the steel chasis remains intact. Thanks for your time"

Not only is he ignorant about the body, what does "steel chasis remains intact" mean?

What a dorky ad, and a dorky car. Why would he put a "Turbo" spoiler with the Turbo script on a non turbo 993? And no interior pics? That's a bit odd. That whole ad is odd! I just laughed so hard when I read the whole way through it. It's really so funny, it could be a Saturday Night Live skit of it's own.

Thanks so much for posting that ad link and adding some humor on a not so funny news day.

Hi Steve - are you going to the Hershey swap meet next month? If so, would you be interested in caravanning up together (I live in Van Ness DC)?

Yes I AM going to Hershey but I have to stop in York PA on the way to pick up my Uncle, so I'm not sure how that would work out with you...I plan to leave around 7-730 at the latest.

Let me know!

Years ago, helping a friend shop for a 911, we looked at a very nice '89 coupe. Asking the owner some questions, he said "yeah, it's got 260 horsepower". "Uh, isn't that the turbo?" I asked. He wasn't sure. So we got out the owner's manual and I showed him how he was quoting the turbo specs.

So we're looking at the engine and I turn to my friend and ask, "didn't this series of cars have water pump problems?" He grins and says, "yeah, I think they did." We look at the seller and he says, "Well, I didn't know about that. I haven't had any problem with it."

He'd owned the car for, I think, 10 years. Clueless. Totally clueless.

Michael,

The "waterpump" thing is priceless.

What I see more than anything though is:

"450HP" "500HP" "over 550HP" "600+ HP"

Usually on a 911 turbo with only an aftermarket big exhaust tip and a K&N airfilter...

Often times, people will believe anything they see.

Although it wasn't a Porsche, my college roomate totaled an old '70's Capri. He got it running again, some Bondo and repainted with spraypaint. He decided to "turbocharge" it by painting turbo. He later cut the roof off to make it a cabriolet. He rearranged the letters to spell Crapi, thus it morfed into the "Turbo Crapi Cabriolet".

You can't imagine how many people would ask about this car thinking that this was original <img border="0" alt="[ouch]" title="" src="graemlins/c.gif" /> Pretty pitiful or they had just had too many beers <img border="0" alt="[cherrsagai]" title="" src="graemlins/drink.gif" />

I emailed Mr. 993 Widebody regarding his EBay ad and its reference to being "Concourse" in the title headline. I was curious as to which events the car was shown at, how many trophies it has won and if the trophies would be given to the new owner of the car?

He replied with a simple one word response: "Sure."

Yet, another honest listing on EBay.

Interesting that he would mention "concours". That word means displaying the car as it was originally stock, imho.

Clearly, his car is NOT a stock 95 carrera.

Perhaps he is confusing concours to mean a "wash and show" event, where any average joe can shine up the car and display it to people. At these events, cars are not actually judged against anything.

I always send people who misrepresent their items (esp. Porsches) on Ebay a little note to let them know that not everyone is being fooled and that they should be honest and make an ammendment to their ad. Nothing irks me more than someone being openly dishonest (or at best openly ignorant).

Hopefully anyone bidding on a car like that would know better, but you'd hate to see someone buy something under false pretense. It's harmful to the whole of Ebay as a venue.

Needless to say, he wrote back that I should "get a life" and quite "lecturing strangers". That seems to be the typical f.u. reaction from this type of bozo. It would be funny if everyone emailed these cons when something like this comes up... maybe they'd clean up their act (or at least their ad). Maybe next time.
