Default MY95 - how many keys?

There are a couple of threads on the number and types of keys supplied with 993s on RL, although on a cursory read they seem to pertain to cars with immobilizers - I have an early MY 95. I have 3 identical keys; they all have the same groove and teeth pattern and all 3 have identical plastic caps on the head.

I am curious how many keys originally came with a MY 95 993. I also would like to know whether there is a valet key that is functionally different from the other keys. Given the rather analog nature of the ignition system for MY 95 I don't imagine that a valet key would be restricted from operating any different than the "regular" keys, with the possible exception of locking the glove box.

TIA,

/alex

i have an early 95 too.

it came with two keys when i bought it: one with a lighted key head with a pewter porsche badge (orig and hard to replace) and the other key is the standard porsche/vw square-ish head key.

Thanks for the reply. Can you please provide details on the valet key? What does it look like? Is the shape in terms of grooves different? Does it unlock the glove compartment?

Much appreciated.

I have a 1995 MY C2. I bought the car from the original owner and here is what I have. 2 keys with push button lights. 1 valet key no light. The small little silver key is for the wheel locks.

Hi Alex
No such thing as a valet key with some sort of limited drivability function, the frunk lock on the pull in our cars takes the ignition key so no valet function to the frunk. The key/column design goes way back to much earlier cars at least back to the '70s if not earlier. For this reason, all the key stalks are the same.

I can lock my frunk and gas cap using my key. The keyed cylinder lock is located in the handle that opens the frunk.
My wheel locks unlock utilizing a socket type fitting.
Finally, my car was delivered with two keys, each of which have an immobilizer. I also have one emergency key, square keyhead, no immobilizer.

I just assumed it was some sort of valet key that didn’t open the glove box. So it is just a normal key with a weird bit on the end?

Yes, you can just buy a new head and it will clip in although the new heads have a color crest and LED bulb in them.

Hi Harry,
Pull handle lock? I will check my car for this as I have never seen it.

To clarify Andy, the reference to dimentia was a reference about me, not you.

Hi Harry.
No Dotage involved, yup, the pull handle has a key lock on my car as well, learn something new every day! I updated my original posting to avoid confusion.
Had an interesting experience on the expressway here in Dallas where all the cars were driving between 90 & 100mph when in Rome, I say!

Andy I'm glad your car and coupes have frunk locks. Frunk locks on cabs only made no sense.

Remember..your mind is the second thing to go!!!
