I have a 97 993 cabriolet that I've recently had problems with. The top on occasion will make a popping sound as it lowers and the top gets stuck in a partially open position until I manually release it.

It's been worked on over the last two months 6 times by two different mechanics. They've reattached the transmisson for the top, lengthened the cables and adjusted the timing mechanism and still haven't corrected the problem.

Has anyone had a similar problem? Any suggestions?

Since it appears they've checked the alignment have you checked to see if the cab top frame is bent? You are opening and closing the top ONLY on level surfaces, right?!?

 

I had a similar problem, ended up being a faulty motor in the locking mechanism. Had to buy a new unit as it was not repairable.
