That depends on what causes it to come on. Is your check engine light coming on now? If so, what is the code that is setting it?
The most vexing cause of a 'Check Engine' light is caused by clogging of air injection passages in the head. I don't know what the actual incidence of this problem is, but it will probably become more common as these cars age. There does now appear to be a low cost 'solution' to this problem, though not one that an EPA official would like.
