ebay relies solely on the feedback system. If they do an investigation and find fraud, they protect themselves by having a max they will cover. I can't remember what that number is but I'm pretty sure it is less than $500. So if this is a scam, someone would be out $1200 for the 18's.

I don't think this is a waste of bandwidth as the wheels are obviously being offered to us as P-car owners and if our discussion saves one person from being scammed, it's worth it.

However, if it is legit, I apologize again and then it is a waste.

BTW, if you click the "ask seller a question" link, it will automatically send an email to the seller.

1. Just how many posts that add nothing new do your think it takes to "alert" the board. Wouldn't your time be better spent alerting eBay?

You have waaaay too much faith in ebay. They will not do a thing. They have no liability.

2. To whom would your conditional apology be directed - to perhaps a legitimate seller (albeit w/poor proof reading skills) who you've (collectively) defamed.

I am apologizing to the seller if he is legit. Much like you, no flame intended.

3. I see. So actually none of you sent an email directly to the seller. Is it possible that the email problem is the fault of eBay's forwarding process? Yet another reason to alert eBay.

That is the only way to contact the seller unless they post their email in their ad. Otherwise, there is no way to DIRECTLY email the seller. Do you honestly think ebay would make a linking mistake? Not likely.

I too sent an email to the seller through eBay which was bounced. I filed a report w/eBay. Is there anything more for this thread?

No, so why don't you leave on your high horse? Maybe you should purchase the wheels and let us know your experience?

HRE does not recognize the vender and will investigate.

What is ebay doing Dan?

You are the wise old guru so I guess this newbie should be kissing your feet.

I have not accused anyone of fraud.

There is no need for you to attack me for being a "self righteous ebay fraud patrol". I do not think anyone can fault me for posting this.

Lastly, I am not hiding behind a wall of anonymity. I don't know you from Sam in Orlando so who is Dan in St. Louis? Adscab in SoCal is as anonymous as you.

I am not a newbie to Porsche. I was the proud owner of a 924 back from 1985-1988. I am lucky enough to currently own 2 P-cars. So, although I may be a newbie to rennlist, I am definitely not a newbie.

I enjoy "fluttering" around the different boards as I have a love for all P-cars, although as most, I do have favorites.

You may have a long standing reputation here and I am sure it is well deserved, but if you go back to my original post, I was asking people with alot more experience than myself for guidance.

Last thing I expected here was for someone to jump all over me.

I think we are loosing sight of the point here...abscab911 thank you for bringing the auction to our attention. It is quite possible you saved someone quite a bit of money and heartache. I do agree with Dan that this thread has pretty much run its course....Whats next on the docket??

However, since you're interested in what eBay is doing here in pertinent part is its response which came less than 3 1/2 hours after my report:

[i]Thank you for taking the time to write to eBay's Safe Harbor department. Having a registered invalid email address is an offense and we will investigate your report as soon as possible, usually within 24 hours.

Investigation into an invalid email address usually takes 1-2 days. If we are unable to obtain a working email address for the account, they may be suspended from using our site. Please keep in mind that due to our privacy policy you will not receive a specific report of action, ... .

I won't debate your other comments, since that's no challenge. I do, however, note I didn't invite you to kiss my feet, although you can kiss my ***.

Although your proclaimed "Last post" wasn't, this IS mine on this thread.

Oh, btw, eBay has now pulled the auction off its site. I think that answers your question about what eBay is doing, doesn't it?

Regarding e-mails.

This same scam has surfaced many times prior this.
Always HRE wheels, pics from some other auction, any size etc.

I got replies from him or her, and when I asked that I could stop by, he couldn't be there etc.
When I asked some idiotic ETs, surprice, surprice, they got them!

But come one guys, Brand new HRE540R wheels with reserve $1500 (or less), all the sizes and bolt patterns in the worls etc. isn't there enough signs?

EBay has turned into the rich madame lording over a sleazy joint. Extending the metaphor, how apt that the customer gets effed in both establishments....
